I have been having very painful, inflamed cracks at the corners of my mouth. I used ketoconazole but it didn't help.
What should I use?
thanks in advance

It could be a vitamin B deficiency. Avoid using the ketoconazole for now. Steroids can reduce inflammation, but they can also thin the skin and weaken it with prolonged use.

Assuming this is NOT a cold sore, try taking a multivitamin or a Vit B supplement twice a day for the next 5 days. It should go away quickly once you take the vitamins.

I am VERY prone to the same kinds of cracks. I take a generic multivitamin every morning, and it really does a good job preventing recurrences.

ADDENDUM

Many Vitamin B supplements include multiple kinds of B vitamins. Just as long as the vitamin is stinky and yellow, you're taking the right one. But if you MUST be specific, Vit B 6 and 12.

My son use to suffer from these too. His would actually become infected by the end of the winter. I am not 100% sure about this but I have heard that it is herpes outbreak. Have him try Abreva, which is over the counter but NOT cheap. You can ask the Pharmacist before purchasing this or for his/her opinion. They are a wonderful source of information.

You need vitamin C. Take at least 1000mg per day. And you don't need the ketoconazole which is an anti fungal. B won't hurt but you really need the C more for your mouth.

get a stick of Vitamin E. That stuff work like a charm. I used it for severe chapped lips. And they went away in 2 days. It really helps. Could you possibly have herpes? Like could it be a cold sore is what I mean? If so, try Blistex.

Go and see your dentist. These cracks are often "Angular chelitis". It's a fungal infection that is often more prevalent in older people with less elastic skin, overweight people or those suffering from malnutrition (predominantly iron defficiency).
Your dentist can confirm or deny the presentation and condition and prescribe you a topical cream to treat this, and depending on the cause, discuss prevention.

it could be a vitamin b def. or yeast infection. I would consult with a physician to get proper diagnosis if it doesn't clear up soon b/c both need medical treatment.
