I don't think mankind is responsible for global warming. The more I learn about the issue, the less I feel we are the cause. Make an effective argument to change my mind.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!

You would be right in saying that mankind is not responsible for global warming. What man kind is responsible for is the acceleration of global warming. Global warming is part of the earth's natural cycle, however, because of our large population on earth and the irresponsible use of things that hurt the environment we are speeding up the cycle at an unbelievable pace. The US is the biggest contributor to the problem because we dont' have that large of a population compared to many countries but we consume over half of the energy in the world which causes Carbon Dioxide to pollute the planet. Global warming is very real and there are things that can be done to slow its pace down.

I won't bother. I'm willing to bet that there is not one skeptical bone in your body, that your mind was made up on the issue long before you even started researching it, and that nothing I or anyone else in this thread says will have any effect on your opinion whatsoever. I claim that you are, in point of fact, a contrarian. A member of that rare group of people whose opinion on global climate change is entirely politically and, perhaps, religiously motivated. So it would be a complete waste of time to try and sway your opinion on the subject in the slightest.

If you wish to change my mind feel free to message me with what you consider the absolute most damning arguments against the theory and I'll happily refute them for you. But bear in mind that if I present a counter to your arguments, I fully expect you to be able to either invalidate my objections or change your position on them. That's the way science works, after all.

Before we had all of this technology[cars, factories etc], we didn't have these types of environmental issues. Global warming and such is caused by CFC's, pollutants and all of those things attacking the ozone layers, which in turn leaks in too much sunlight. Perfect example: I just read an article that says global warming has melted a piece of Antarctica the size of CALIfornia in the past WEEK because of a constant 41 degree temperature. Before then, it had taken several hundred years for that to come close to happening. My point: we are messing up very badly and very quickly and each generation gets worse because they don't care. By the time someone cares, there won't be many of us.

You should be skeptical, and that's good it means your not a "kool aid drinker" and can think for yourself. Do you remember the hole in the ozone? same nut jobs same hysteria. But, I do believe that we need to become more efficient as a society, and even more responsible.

For those of you that weren't born or don't remember the seventies, that was a serious time of pollution, chemical dumping, people dying because of Crypto Spiridium, and other nasty stuff. We as a nation have vastly improved the environment. But more work is ahead. We must strive for continuous improvement in this area, and we are as a nation.

However, for anyone that has traveled outside of the United States, one can clearly see that we are the cleanest nation on the planet.

This is somewhat humorous

""I have met alot of women that I would say are the wrong women""

Wrong, check with recent scientists, global warming is occuring on every planet in our solar system 'because' the sun is putting out extra solar activity than normal.

""If we the human race siezed to exist, do you think the ice caps would be melting at as fast of a rate as they are now. No...""

Its happened before. when there wasnt a human race.

"" -CO2 is a greenhouse gas.
-Fossil fuels are made of carbon and hydrogen. Burn them and the carbon is combined with oxygen in the air to make CO2.
-CO2 levels in the atmosphere have risen constantly since the industrial revolution.
-Temperatures have also risen.""

Yes and at times during that period temperatures have also fallen. You dont remember the fear of global cooling in the 70s?

""I add that I believe we have created even more environmantal problems with each space shuttle that goes up into space.""

There was a fear that the holes punched in the atmosphere would be permanant damage. But the atmosphere repaired itself. Mother nature is talented that way.

""Before we had all of this technology[cars, factories etc], we didn't have these types of environmental issues.""

yes actually these types of things did occur on occasion.

Look man pollutes, I dont know many who would argue against that. humans need to pollute less, I will agree with that. Humans contribute to what people call global warming, ( although most really dont know what it is ), i will agree with that also.

But if you are yelling the sky is falling you really out to honestly find out what its really all about.

If I measure the temperature in one area of your town, and its 10 degrees warmer than last year, can I just assume that the whole town warmed 10 degrees?
no if I am going to make that statement then I should include teh temperature measurements for the whole town.
But these so called scientists arent doing that. They are only showing people the numbers that show what they want to show.. global warming.

If I measure the ice melting in greenland. should I only include data from one area where the caps are melting the most or include it all? well all of course .. but again.. thats not what scientists are doing...

Should I measure the Co2 output from one volcano and then make a claim that man produces 150 times as much co2 as volcanos .. or should I measure several of them... well several at least but again.. thats not what scientists are doing.

Long post... if you really want info look it up... i would be glad to point you at a few real sources of info if you want also.

Cannot do it. You are right.
One volcano eruption throws out more junk in the air than all cars combined (and some volcanoes continually spit out ashes and gases for years and years.) And nothing happens! The Earth recovers as it always did and always will.
--------------------
Brittney, what changes? Temperature? Even if the numbers are right, they are so small. Half a degree in a hundred years? One degree in a hundred years? Could it be natural change of climate? Can you say for sure there was absolutely no changes in climate 300 years ago, before industry, cars, etc.?
-----------------------------------------
Space shuttle and hurricanes? Space shuttle and earthquakes?
And there were no hurricanes and earthquakes before space exploration started? How can somebody be so stupid? The LARGEST, most devastating hurricanes and earthquakes in the the history of this country happened before any shuttles and rockets. What shuttle went up in the beginning of the last century, when San Francisco was hit by the most devastating earthquake?

If we aren't responsible what or who is? The sun produces the same amount of energy, no more no less. The enviornment adapts to change, so what is the mean source of change. Our ever evolving technologies, our society, and the way we misuse our fuels. If we the human race siezed to exist, do you think the ice caps would be melting at as fast of a rate as they are now. No... I will give you this, yes they would of melted on their own, but we're just making the entire case a hell of a lot worse.

Irrsponsible Agriculture ,
and expanding populations and its effects are the planets biggest enemies

some still believe that nothing is wrong ,they will also be convinced when the price of food and beer hits the roof ,because of third world problems in food production and Global potable water shortage

are We responsible ?is it the Sun?
or is it God who wants to punish?
or is it Gaia who wants to clean some parasitic infestation?
who cares ? that is not important any more

WHAT IS -is that we are gonna be in trouble

The Earth has many problems because of man
this is undeniable ,how much we are responsible for Global warming is debateble ,But there is a definate change in Global temperatures that is affecting nature in a bad way.

this text only covers some aspects of Climate change ,i.e.effects of deforestation and subsequent man made desertification ,because of irresponsible farming using chemicals ,over pumping carbon aquifers, over grazing ,wild fires (because of slash and burn gone out of control)

water and air polution such as caused by
industrial contamination ,the contaminating effects of the cities(the internal combustion engine) ,are other stories,

and all of these are also man made ,such as the high industrial chimneys pumping contamination into the clouds and the burning of tires, some of this polution has been found in the ice in the polar regions

there are natural cycles in the planets life
but a lot is influenced by mans existance ,and this is increasing with overpopulation, putting strains on Natural resources and increasing contaminations as well as destructions of essential componants the ensure living conditions for all life forms

the thinner ozone layer helps to speed this up.and this is caused mainly by air polution ,also as a result of mans actions

in North Africa,India,Mexico ,millions of people are effected by land loss and desertification and some have died as a result,

And now many animals are becoming sick because of changes in temperature ,
vital links in the food chains are disapearing affecting other species further along in the chain

90% of the feral (wild) bee population in the United States has died out.

In the Netherlands bee diversity is down 80 percent in the sites researched, and "bee species are declining or have become extinct in Britain."

wildflowers that depend on pollination have dropped by 70 percent

we are witness to a mass exstinction ,for the first time since the dinosaurs, of the earth's estimated 10 million species, 300,000 have vanished in the past 50 years. each years, 3,000 to 30,000 species become extinct.

everything is happening so fast it is not possible to monitor things any more.

,the Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year
and most of the desserts we know are a results of mans actions ,and they are increasing ,not getting less ,in the dinosaurs days ,there were few desserts.

collectively this planet is drying up ,

each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss

and there is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate this production ,
and there are less and less farmers to do it..
Arable lands and their farms are lost all over the globe. Many farmers sons abandon farming and head for the cities.

Northern China is drying up, what once were millions of food producing people, are now hungry refugees ,running for their lives from the all consuming dust storms.
This will have a great effect on world food prices when they start buying at what ever cost, to feed their people.

The farmers that are left have to feed some 70 million more people than the year before but with less topsoil.

Over the last half century,
Population growth & rising incomes have tripled world grain demand from 640 million tons to 1,855 million

In the near future the global farming community will not be able to feed every body ,food prices will continue to rise. .

RISING SEAS
The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.
this does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.but the melting ice from Green land and the south pole ,are another matter

we have only recorded the weather for a fraction of the time of earth's existence.....it has a natural cycle but with all the pollution we may be accelerating the process and tipping it further to an extreme on a scale.....

I cannot change your mind.

I can present arguments that support an idea or belief, but only you can allow yourself to agree with them. If you choose to dismiss them, end of story
