Dear In China,
I think that's the way Jesus put it too: Man does not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
So in that passage Jesus compares his Word to bread. (Just like we need food daily to be sustained- we need God's word to give us God's perspective) and as we fill ourselves with it- His Holy Spirit brings it to mind to help us.
I also read an awesome passage in Luke last week that compared God's word to planting. The farmer plants the seeds and waters it (kind of like in the parable of the sower) and he goes to sleep and does not know how the word grows, but it eventually sprouts, and the farmer is ready to bear its fruit, and God's word opeartes in much the same way in our lives.
Thanks for your sharing, and i'm encouraged to read God's word daily too.
The most important thing is to establish a good habit and also to not depend on our own righteousness (how we do at reading God's word- we may miss every now and again), but to just develop a heart that loves God's word and loves to not only read, learn, and study it, but obey it!
God Bless You as you continue to grow in Him.
Kindly,
Nickster

Yes, I agree with you, but one should use a tested method of reading it. Here is a time-tested method for uncovering the mystery of the Word of God: "the child of God (that's me) takes the Word of God (the Scriptures) into the presence of God (prayer) and lets the Holy Spirit of God (the Author) make that Word come to life for me and, more importantly, in me."
Peace and every blessing!
Edit: Prayer should always accompany the reading of Scripture.

Yes, we should. I should, I ought to, but I'm terrible at doing it. I've struggled with doing it regularly for decades. Either I know I should, but I forget -- or I do it, but I'm too distracted and scatty to focus on it. I posted on this last week, and 40 people replied with ways to help me (thanks, people!).
However, there are a lot of things that can help us. You can have the Bible downloaded as an e-book or on your Palm Pilot, or have verses every day pop up on your computer desktop.

THE HOLY BIBLE IS THE NOURISHMENT FOR OUR SOUL.
Study to show thyself approved
2Tm:2:14: Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
2Tm:2:15: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2Tm:2:16: But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
2Tm:2:17: And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
2Tm:2:18: Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
2Tm:2:19: Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
2Tm:2:20: But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
2Tm:2:21: If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
2Tm:2:22: Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
2Tm:2:23: But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
2Tm:2:24: And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
2Tm:2:25: In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
2Tm:2:26: And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

yes, I try to read it in the morning before I get up and then again right before sleep. The word of God is the bread of Life.
Good point and great advice.

Yes. We need spiritual food daily. The Word is referred to as spiritual milk and solid meat. We need it every day.
Even when we don't realize it, getting that Word in us everyday is doing a wondrous work inside us that will eventually manifest on the outside.
Also, the Word is a Sword.....you can only wield that sword as masterfully as you can grasp it -- therefore you need it every day.
