I can live with the 100 points and i don't care if DEI gets docked or fined because i don't believe Jr had anything personally to do with it. I think it was an accident, if you think about it they said the rear spoiler was 1 1/2 inches higher than it was supposed to be, know i am not a nascar inspector but i believe if you were going to cheat then you would find a less noticeable way. I read somewhere that the bracket that was found this week was acceptable 3 weeks ago and that nascar has change the configuration of the bracket a couple of times so i am not trying to lay the blame on them but you could see how it could be misunderstood, so i think if that's the case then they could be a little more lenient. In the other instances of cheating the punishment wasn't quite so severe. Tony Jr should have been suspended for 4 races at the most because they should give a little flexibility with the new cars heck some teams still can't get the old cars right and they have been driving them for years. If you think i feel that way just because i am a junior fan then your wrong i am a racing fan i watched racing before he got there and i will be watching it after he retires. Its just that this car is new and they should be a little easier on the teams until they have more experience with setting up the new cars that's just my opinion

When I first read the story about the mounting brackets I thought the penalty was too severe.
But after researching it more, THEY WERE CHEATING.
They intentionally modified the brackets to change the angle of the spoiler to give them more down force and have an aerodynamic advantage over the other cars.
That's why the penalty was so severe.
NASCAR doesn't care who Jr drives for, if anything this whole soap opera that has been going on between him and DEI is good for business.
Look at all the news coverage and all the people that are talking about it.
Any publicity is good publicity
So you can boycott if you want, but me I'm going to keep watching there is going to be some good racing this weekend in the All Star Race

Im a HUGE NASCAR fan, and not a JR fan. But to me, this does seem like a punishment, for lack of a better word, for Jr. leaving DEI. Nascar is struggling with fan interest this year as you can see on these forums as well as dropping TV ratings and ticket sales. Jr, being the most popular and recognizable driver in the field, leaving the team his dad built for him is not something NASCAR wants, they want the big drivers to stay with the same teams, #, major sponsors, etc bc it bodes better for them. I think NASCAR is on the fall, and i think the main reason for it is because of Bill France and his cronies. I think it is time for a comissioner, not a CEO out for money.
And to my previous posters, the part on Jr's car was an improper mounting bracket. This mounting bracket had at one time been used during the testing of the COT and was subsequently decided against as the official part to be used. So i think that they were not cheating, but an honest mistake was made. I wish Nascar would show a little more subjectivity to their rulings in this instance, Its The COT, how many races have the teams been around this car, very few compared to the old. How many new templates and restrictions are there, many.
I still don't believe that Nascar is "fixed" or scripted. I feel that the high officials of NASCAR ie. Bill France and Co. are more interested in money for themselves than the integrity of the sport.

Do you think every one should look the other way just because it is Jr.? Do you thing he is so much in the pocket of NASCAR that he should be praised for cheating? Dei. cheated they all got what they had coming. If NASCAR didn't fine them then it would be WWF. So learn from this and move on. No more of this poor Jr. he is a star so he should get every thing he wants cause the fans want it. For cryin in the rain dude get a life and stay home we could use a few less like you who give up and take your ball and go home when it ain't goin your way

I dont think so, they are the first team to screw with (or up) the COT so they are making an example of them. It is just like Pacman Jones in the NFL. Letting everyone else know that you screw with it and you are screweD!! But I'm sure someone will twist this into another way NASCAR favors HMS. Give me a break a boycott, they broke the rules, welcome to the real world, if you break the law (or rules) you pay the price.

I think the Jr Nation fans need to quit throwing beers and respond by boycotting NASCAR and their Sponsor. Jr Nation should change phone providers from Sprint Nextel to some other provider. Also Don't go to the races and look at the empty seats. Show NASCAR that they are not GOD. I'm sick of Nascar. The only reason I still watch it is to watch Dale Jr. race. NASCAR doesn't want Jr to succeed that is why they make up rules toward him. He's the only driver they put a lap down for speeding down pit road. Yep - NEW RULES for Dale Jr.
Everyone drop your Sprint and Nextel accounts and save your Bud and laugh back at NASCAR.
Boycotting will show NASCAR they can be controlled also. If Jr Nation drops their Sprint and Nextel accounts then NASCAR will stop this crap.
Spread the word.
Tony Stewart was right - %100 right.
JR NATION strike back!
Oh yea marci4tony - Nascar doesn't need any paper when they have Jimmy and Jeff nosing them

Wow,Juniors"CAR" has a problem, guess Junior did it to tick of his Stepmother?
NASCAR has been going over all the C O T cars with a fine tooth comb and boom they found a problem, with the most high profile driver in the sport right now.So they socked it to the team.Had this bee a feild filler or a driver that had not been in the news then he would have gotten a slap on the wrist.
Protest?Boycott?Waste of time.
Just pull yourself up by the bootstraps and get on with it.Get out there and win.Don't sit there with a pitty party.

I'm not disappointed at the penalties but the reason NASCAR penalizied him. NASCAR and analysis alike said he had an advantage, what advantage? He didn't qualify all too well, he didn't qualify for the pole almost with an illegal gas tank or qualify for the biggest race of the year with "magic" gas, so the advantage factor NASCAR tried to explain was crap. He didn't finish all that great nor did he lead with that car. He finished 8 with no lead laps. His car was also as FAIR as everyone else's. He didn't go 4 STRAIGHT races with an post-race infraction. NASCAR earned a F for this penalty and the reasons behind it.

I think YOU should boycott asking questions on Yahoo. He cheated, got caught doing it and now has to suffer the consequences. NASCAR showed at Daytona that they weren't going to tolerate cheating and at least in that area they've been pretty consistent. They are also making a strong statement that there is NO gray area on many aspects of the COT and trying to get around their rules will get you in a heep of trouble.

Once again, for any racing neophytes; adding downforce to the the rear end of a tight car only makes the car want to turn less which means the car will be S-L-O-W-E-R.
At Darlington in particular, you want the rear end to pivot, not be glued to the track.
If indeed his wing's angle of attack was at 18.5 degrees and everyone else was at 16 or less, Junior would have been at the most, one of the slowest cars on the track.
Junior was simply nailed for a infraction that would most definitely not have given him a competitive advantage at Darlington so NASCAR could simply drive home the point that the brackets will not be altered in any way.
Somebody was eventually going to get nailed anyway and to NASCAR's great relief, it turned out to be the sport's most popular driver's team with one of the more pure records that provided the best possible deterrent to other more well known and practiced cheaters.
NASCAR couldn't pass up the opportunity to not just tell but actually show the rest of the teams that it does not matter if an alteration helps or hurts as no alteration will be tolerated.
Lucky Junior was the first, because I have a feeling the second guy will find himself DQ'd, docked 200 points and paying a million dollar fine.
The third guy, lifetime ban.
NASCAR stated that they were very disappointed in Tony Eury and they should be, if he was intentionally trying to slow Junior's car.
I don't believe for a minute that he was, but it's no less disappointing if the infraction was due to carelessness.
Even simple honest human error will not be tolerated when it comes to NASCAR's latest "untouchable", the almighty wing.
That wing and what can be done with it is worrisome, but not so much from the teams, but from NASCAR itself.
On most tracks, NASCAR allowed the teams to run as much or as little spoiler as they wanted.
So much control of rear downforce strictly in the hands of NASCAR is not a good idea, unless NASCAR is willing to release the wing angle allowed for an event and have an independent, unbiased third party monitor, measure and release the angles found on all cars after each session.
I want to know beyond a shodow of doubt that all cars are running the same wing angle.
