Yes!!!!!! Allergic reactions can cause hives. It does not happen usually the first time you use a product because your body builds antibodies against the "invader". It is subsequent uses that may show the reaction.
Call your doctor immediately. Do not wait. Have liquid Benadryl on hand and use according to package directions. It will help with the swelling and itching. Oatmeal bath can also be soothing to the skin.
Do NOT take any more amoxicillin until you speak to your doctor.
And be careful before you take any other penicillin derivatives!

If you are allergic to it, it will most defently cause hives. The best thing for you to do is to go to your doctor immediatly or go to an er and have them check it. They can give you some meds to help with that plus find some antibotic that you can take and it will be most likely erithomycin because that is given if there is a penicillin allergy. I know because I am allergic to all of them penicillin, amoxicillin, erythomicin, Kflex, tetracyclin, and zythromax. They all make me break me out in hives.

If you are having any tightness in your throat, any difficulty swallowing, or feel you heart racing, please go to the emergency room right away.
Amoxicillin is a penicillin derivative. If you are allergic to penicillin, you will probably have a reaction to Amoxicillin as well. I wouldn't take another dose, until I spoke with my doctor. Please call him/her now, most doctors have an after hours answering service. Let the answering service know that you are breaking out in hives, and they should have your doctor return your call.

Before taking this medicine
You should not use amoxicillin if you are allergic to any penicillin antibiotic, such as ampicillin, dicloxacillin, oxacillin, penicillin, or ticarcillin.
To make sure amoxicillin is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:
- asthma;
- liver or kidney disease;
- mononucleosis (also called "mono");
- a history of diarrhea caused by taking antibiotics; or
- food or drug allergies (especially to a cephalosporin antibiotic such as Omnicef, Cefzil, Ceftin, Keflex, and others).
If you are being treated for gonorrhea, your doctor may also have you tested for syphilis, another sexually transmitted disease.
Amoxicillin is not expected to harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.
Amoxicillin can make birth control pills less effective. Ask your doctor about using non hormonal birth control (condom, diaphragm with spermicide) to prevent pregnancy while taking this medicine.
Amoxicillin can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
The amoxicillin chewable tablet may contain phenylalanine. Talk to your doctor before using the chewable tablets if you have phenylketonuria (PKU).

Yes you are probably having an allergic reaction to the amoxil. You should contact your doc to get something different. Also, if the hives continue, take some benadryl. But stop taking the medicine.
