I hate these prices as much as anyone else, however I think we as Americans should realize how good we've had it and for how long. Nearly 13 years ago I visited Southern England for a while, and at that time their gas prices worked out to about $2.50 per gallon. That was over a dozen years ago! Germans have been paying over $4 per gallon for years and years now, and some of them burn up gas an a phenomenal rate driving 160 mph on the Autobahn. Now don't get me wrong, it's irritating to pay $48 to fill up my Xterra, but it's just something that we're going to have to deal with. It's sick, but out country is almost entirely dependant on oil from countries who don't really like us. There are more and more cars being made around the world each day, and the demand for energy is not going to fall at any time in the future. Can you imagine the amount of power needed just to charge up every cell phone and iPod in the world? I couldn't afford that power bill! There are simple things to do, get a smaller more efficient car if you can, keep your oil changed and your car in good working order. Keep your tires properly inflated, drive 5 or 10 mph slower than you usually do. Carpool. When you have errands to run around town, take 10 minutes to sit down before you leave and plan the most efficient route to make it to all your appointments. It's just gonna be a fact of life, sad to say.

Of course these gas prices are ridiculous. The only way to reduce gas prices in America is to just lessen the demand. When I lived there, people didn't care about the prices. They just drove as they pleased even if the trip was just a short distance away..that's why the gas prices are getting higher.
I've traveled all over the world. Distances that Americans think are far are incredibly short to other people. Only in America do people drive 24/7! Meanwhile, if possible, get a more fuel-efficient car. Help the environment, stop guzzling gas, Americans!
The U.S. "suburbs" idea after WW2 was bad...If only America wasn't so big on suburbs, things would be better for Americans.
Asians have it a lot worse. Gas prices in S.Korea, for example, are about the equivalent of $8.

It would have to hit $5 per gallon. Right now, taking public transportation would take nearly 4 times as long to make my daily commute. My time has value too.
Danolove - your price decrease after the last boycott is a fantasy. Never happened. The "big boys" laughed all the way to the bank.

Why wait? If you believe in your cause, start today. If you started doing all the things you claim we all should be doing, you would see your own cash reserves grown and you wouldn't worry about the price of gas.
It's like exercise, how fat do you have to get before you start working out?
Put your money where your mouth is and quit whining.

I can afford gas up to about $10/gal. Anything beyond that will hurt my current lifestyle.
Don't like the prices? Don't buy it. Simple as that. Capitalism in action. When demand drops, prices drop.

Considering that "BID OIL" has said that even if everyone boycotts gasoline it will not effect the price because if you have a car, you still have to fill it up. The only way to fight back is CAR POOLING. If only one car has to fill up instead of three, their gasoline sales drop, and no corporation wants to sell less product.

I think it's crazy. I have a co-worker who started riding his bicycle to work because he can't afford spending $65 a week on gas.

Hold on, look at the price of gas adjusted for inflation.

There are spikes for WWII, 1981 and now. But if you ignore the spikes, you see gas prices have been going steadily DOWN.
