Let's say I want to go to Caracas, which costs around $800 from San Diego. Could I get a ticket for around $400?

I did it a year or so ago, it worked great. I got a $300 ticket for $200. Be reasonable, but bid low. They'll tell you beforehand like the earliest/latest scheduled arrivals departures, and if you're good to go with that, I'd reccomend it. If fare is your highest concern, then it is worth a shot.

You can but I wouldn't.. Most of the time you don't even know the flight information. You could have an overnight or a multi day layover somewhere.. I think I would rather just pay the more expensive price to make sure that I would be able to et good flight times

You can try. I have rented cars through Priceline at a good rate. Never bought an airline ticket from them, though. But if they decline that price, you can always try again later, so nothing to lose!

Look around on different websites, print out the cheapest, then bid with Priceline....don't go too low, they like to see negociation...
