Because if people knew he existed then they'd have to believe in God and he's working hard to make sure that doesn't happen.

He will show himself in "Jerusalem" claiming to be GOD shortly after the "deadly wound."
2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
2Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Sometimes man will reject evil outright if it is too much "in his face." If Satan presented himself in all of his ugliness and terror most men would flee from him.
So he builds us up to indulge in sin very slowly.
In time, we can be broken down to let Satan have his way. Kind of like a frog can be slowly boiled to death because he doesn't notice the almost imperceptible change in heat.
The Devil has more conquests by being subtle.

How do you know that he hasn't?
2 Corinthians 11:14
"And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light."

Some people are just going to claim that Satan has taken over many of the countires of Africa since they are basically living in Chaos. Also, it being considered "the dark continent".
Not that I believe that in the least.

Like Zip, why don't you ask "him?" As one who was of Lord Seth, long ago you can summon him upon will but he "takes" a piece of you with him for the "service." Anything he does has a "price" if you are "brave" enough to sacrifice yourself to him. I don't recommend it, but learning is all part of the game now isn't it? You, asked. Maybe in the end you will be as I who stays FIRM in faith to the father in heaven for having taken me out of this way of "thinking."

Look into the eyes of very, very evil people (like serial killers, murderers, psychos) and tell me Satan doesn't make an appearance!

He does more damage in hiding. Nothing makes him happier than people believing he is a red pitchfork wielding half goat man with horns. Trust me, he exists. I am not making this up and I am not naive. It is a FACT. Some still ignore it though.

I'm not sure, but doesn't the bible say Satan makes his appearance only during the apocalypse?

He has made his appearance if you will in many ways. In every evil that exists in this world and has existed since the man fell from grace. Child abuse, rape, murder, torture, unjust war. The list continues.
