When an athiest or someone doesn't believe what we believe, instead of answering with your own words and thoughts, you quote long lines of scripture? I have stated a verse now and then to get my point across, but never have I used mega scripture to get my point across. If I were an unbeliever that would be a huge turn off for me and I wouldn't take the time to read it (just being honest). My question is..........why do you choose that method of trying to getting your point across? I know it is God's word and that is the basis of our "religion" but don't you think a direct answer would be more appropriate to unbelievers if you want to answer? Shoving scripture down the throat of an unbeliever is a shur way of turning them off. That is referred to as "Bible Thumping". I just don't agree with your method - although I am sure your intentions are probably in the right place.

LAZURUS - HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF A TESTIMONY? THAT IS YOUR GOD STORY IN YOUR OWN WORDS. JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T QUOTE SCRIPTURE TO ANSWER A QUESTION DOESN'T MEAN YOU DON'T READ THE BIBLE AND HIDE IT IN YOUR HEART. WHAT IS THE USE IN QUOTING LONG LINES OF SCRIPTURE IF NO ONE IS READING IT AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS. AS FAR AS AN UNPARDONABLE SIN..... WHAT YOU ARE SAYING THERE IS THAT IF AN ATHIEST OR I DON'T LISTEN TO YOUR BABBLING SCRIPTURE WE ARE COMMITING AN UNPARDONABLE SIN. I THINK YOU ARE USING THAT SCRIPTURE OUT OF CONTEXT. IF THAT WERE TRUE, THE WAY YOU ARE IMPLYING, THEN THAT MEANS THAT NO ONE WHO TAKES THE TIME TO READ YOUR "NOVELS" WILL BE PARDONED. THAT REALLY MAKES A PERSON CONFIDENT THAT GOD IS FAIR AND FORGIVING.

JUDGE LEST YE BE JUDGED, LAZURUS.

LET JESUS RAISE YOUR VIEWS ON WITNESSING FROM THE DEAD.

The best I can tell you is to preach the bible everyday and if necessary use words. Let your life be your sermon. Actions speak louder than words. You should know the word, but you don't have to be obnoxious with it Jesus knew the word and He spoke it when necessary otherwise he lived it. Satan can quote scripture, doesn't make him a Christian. I agree shoving it down throats doesn't work. I got saved because I saw people living it not just speaking it. It's like everything else, some ways work better than others for some people.

You're not a Christian if you don't know scripture and use to witness for Christ. People who don't are compromised. The enemy loves it when a Christian doesn't know or use scripture because he knows your words will go up like smoke. Scripture is necessary. God says:

"So is my word that goes out from my mouth, it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." God's words are living and active, sharper than any double edged sword, penetrating even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is the lifeblood of the Christian faith as is the cross of Jesus.

When you use your words, they have little credibility, but God's words never die in the heart of anyone that hears them. I hang out here and quote scripture a lot because God uses it to change hearts, even if the reader does not know at the time it is influencing them. I agree that too much scripture at once for an unbeliever may not be effective, but without it what is your basis for any authority as a Christian? None.

Anyone who doesn't listen to it, is rejecting Jesus Christ and committing the only unpardonable sin.

I agree and I don't even read those MEGA lines of scripture, and I am a Christian.
I understand that a non-believer is not going to take anything in the bible as fact, since they don't consider it the word of God.
the best way to express your faith imo is to tell a person about your own experiences.
Of course on here there are always a thousand questions from Atheists and others about the bible, at which time I give an honest answer as well as sometimes a bible quote.

I think personal opinions have no meaning when people don't have a clue what they're talking about. I use Scriptures to back up what I say, and still people thumbs down the truth. And that goes right along with Bible Scriptures that say, that there would be a period of time when people will not put up with the healthful teachings but according to their own desires will gather unto themselves, teachers, that will tickle their ears. That means people won't care what God's word says, they just want to hear what sounds good to them whether it's truth or not.

I agree we should use our realization from what we have learned from scripture. Even most Christians don't read it . I am talking from a Universal point of view because I also consider myself a follower of Jesus though You wouldn't accept me as a Christian because of my Belief that Krishna is The Father. But I don't like when people who follow The Vedas do the same thing putting mile long quotes with no personal touch to the question. I find it a bit impersonal. And as far as to the atheists they won't read a word.

I agree with you. I will typically try to write an introduction to what I am about to paste to an Atheist. But this is a point that I want to get across to you:
That many times I am not writing for the person I am answering. Sometimes I write for who might be looking, the seekers who are teetering in the brink of salvation. I think taht part is important. Some of these Atheists are not in the slightest interested in finding or understanding Christianity. But I am actually ignoring their often rude demeanor and answer the question for the seekers. If the seeker is looking, they are often capable of seeing what is written as the truth, and they can recognize scripture as a good answer for they are being led by God to understand.

So I am agreeing with you that scripture alone will sometimes be not the best way to get a point across, but sometimes scripture says it all for those with the Spirit of Understanding.

I'm also a christian. I think that when the "bible thumpers" are talking, they get so frustrated because they don't understand how anyone wouldn't believe. I think they fail to realize that it's not "them" that leads someone to christ...it's the Holy Spirit. If he's not dealing with the person you are talking to, you can quote scripture ALL DAY and it won't do any good. Jesus didn't force his way into anyone's life...he showed love and true interest in people's lives. He showed them GOD in who he was and how he lived. And that's exactly what we should do too.

There is always reason to let others believe if it will be answered directly from the bible because our basis is the bible. Non believers could not reason out that it just came from our thoughts but on the exact words in the bible. That is as very good basis of our source of belief.

Whether they will believe it or not, religious people will lost nothing. We are only doing our best to let them understand the words in the bible because they can not really understand it and if they could understand , they refused to understand. It is not our fault anymore if they don't believe what was written in the bible. We are doing our best to explain to them but if they continue not to accept God, its okay. Take note of this verse from the bible:

Rev 22:11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still; and he which is filthy, let him filthy still, and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
Rev 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
Rev 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Do you know how many times Jesus Christ said, "It is written."? The old Mosaic scriptures were the "Bible" of that time. So I guess that made Jesus a "Bible Thumper". The Word of God will never comes back void. I can't think of a better reference to use. Even if you're para-phrasing (using your own words), you're still quoting scriptures.

Any amount of scripture is a turn off to an atheist.

Would I convince you of the existence of Santa Claus by quoting "The Night Before Christmas"? Or of Tinkerbell by quoting from "Peter Pan"? Would I convince you that Mohammed was Allah's prophet and that we should all worship Allah by quoting from the Koran?

Think about that for a while.

Christians don't seem to understand that just because you have a book that was written a long time ago that doesn't constitute proof of anything.

But I appreciate that you are trying to at least be civil to atheists. :D
