I'm 25yrs old and I just got glasses for the first time. I just got them today and I'm having a bit of trouble adjusting to them. I just read while using them and I found after about a half hour that I kind of liked reading without them better, even though when I wear them the print is darker and sharper. I kind of have a bit of a headache right now actually.
When I did the eye exam, I had more of a problem seeing the bottom few lines of the chart on the wall, so maybe I need them more for distances.
I guess I'm just looking for some guidance as to how I'm supposed to feel with these new glasses.

I should add that when I did the small print test at the doctor's, it wasn't bad - just a little fuzzy but I could still read it. I also use my eyes a whole lot - a read a lot and I work as a 911 dispatcher so I'm using a computer for 10hour shifts.

I totally understand! My advise is to wear them for 1 hour 3 x's a day and gradually longer. If you have astigmatism, you will find that driving and watching tele is the best time to adjust. Right now your brain is just confused as to what you are doing. After 30 days anything you do will become a habit.

I wear glasses and I don't have any of those problems, I've wore them all my life. The first symptoms I felt the first time were probably a little bit of headache like you said and blurriness for a while, after that it was cool, myeyes got adjusted to them. You should give it some time and put some eye drops in case you feel irritation. Hope you do much better wit them.

I would ask the Doctor that prescribed them the very same thing you asked here. Only they know the results of your Vision part of your exam. Some peopleonly need their glasses for distance and can take them off for near. Some people have this kind of reaction if they have been corrected for astigmatism for the first time and it takes some time to let your brain learn how to use the correction and how it is to see correctly. Ask your doctor!

Congratulations on getting OLD! O.K., that was impolite, I admit it. However, welcome to adulthood. I don't mean getting glasses. I mean having to accept and deal with something you hate.

I hate my glasses. I've had them for decades. I always take them off to read. I am used to them, however. You will be as well. It just takes time.

You will feel awkward for a few days. Then your confidence will quickly grow as you subconsciously realize you can see clearly. When you adjust your glasses on your face without thinking about it, then you have accepted them. It takes two or three weeks, total.

Ok it is most likely that you will only need to wear them when driving at night.
If you wear them regularly you may only encourage your eyes to get weaker.
You should make it a point to use your eyes more.
We tend to not focus in on our everyday things because we already know what we're looking at and don't need to see it clearly. Our eyes get lazy.
Just as laziness causes muscles in the body to become weaker, the muscles that control your eyes ability to focus need to be kept in shape.
Wear them only when you need them and try to strengthen your eyes without them by focusing in on random things as far away as you can see, whenever you think of it.
I use those magic eye books because they give my eyes a work out.

I wear glasses... from the day I just got them it took a few days to get use to them... it would itch my nose which was very irritating... just leave them on and get use to them now and they do tend to give you headaches the first week... oh and if your comfortable not reading with your glassses then I think it's only convenient to take them off unless their prescribed for far-sighted vision...

Take the specs back to where you got them and have them double check the prescription. Could be that they are a bit too strong for you.

you have to give your eyes at least a week to adjust to the prescription, if you are not able to adjust after that time i would go back and see if they made the glasses properly..

Did your eye doctor tell you what you needed them for? I would call and ask if it is just for long distances , ect... I guess for now just wear them 1 hour and off for 2 until you get used to them
