I'm a Taoist, and I've never bowed to statues.
In fact, I don't think you know what a Taoist is.

Taoism has nothing to do with gods ..... it was the olden uneducated people that mix and match with the "gods" of their ancient belief into taoism. The "gods" are direct replicate of the book "The coronation of gods" written by a fantasy storybook writer from Ming Dynasty.
If you were really a true taoist or true buddhist, you would had at least read the scriptures of these two religion rather then believing hearsay or spreading rumours, belittling these two religions.
In Taoist, there are basically only three founders, LaoTzu, Hong Yun and Yuan Shi, which is called San Qing, or the three pure ones. They talked about Wu-Wei, or the paradox. The way, and so on .... there is no gods inside taoism.
Now, please tell me when was the last time you read Dao De Jing or the last time you read Jin Gang Jing?
-------
I was never a Taoist, however, when I was around 8 years old, I read the Dao De Jing and the Yi Jing (The traditional chinese text version, you know, the square square type of books binded together with strings)...... Kind of enriching on their theory dao, liang yi and their views on the dust. I read my first buddhist scripture when I was 13 and even until today, I am still reading new scripture (and yes, I am still trying to find fault with buddhism), but I was Christian until 16 when I finally left the religion because I cannot find a ounce of truth in the bible.
It is also said both Taoism and Buddhism are not religions, but religion (to me) is just a word to define common theory.

Some taoists have Gods. So do many Buddhists. You might research what a God means to them though.

I strive to be a Taoist. The harder I try to get there, the farther away from it I am.
Don't ask me what the hell that means, because I don't have a clue. But for whatever reason, it gives me more peace and chaos and nothing.
I am just walking down my/our/your path.
I have no clue how to be a Taoist, which might bring me closer to it.
Now I am totally confused/enlightened!
Aw, man, now I have a freakin' migraine.

Some taoists are theists, just like some Buddhists are theists. Offering food to statues is a sign of respect, but in no way required. Some sects of Buddhism are actually theists sects and they believe in demigods and such.

Sounds like you are confusing a person's:
Theology with their
Philosophy.
A Taoist may or may not include some form of theism into their own individual Way.
It's about the same as somebody looking at a pumper engine and saying: "That isn't a real fire engine because it isn't a hook and ladder!"
.

Taoism as a philosophy is not concerned with a godhead, assuming that that godhead is unknowable and beyond our comprehension. Some of the many Chinese religious sects of Taoism do have lesser gods that represent facets of the natural order of things. Which were you?

Just because it isn't about gods doesn't mean it's not compatible with them. Christianity isn't about philosophy, but I enjoy it. It's not incompatible with my faith.
