what's wrong with the "dark presence" that you are afraid of is just symbolism...

from the emily rose story(since it was based on a true story), emily and the priest say satan... and he wears a black cloak...
the movie could have just exaggerated that they actually saw satan on a black cloak but basically we stereotype them to be dark and sinister...

I believe many of us have seen movies or read books and satan is usually depicted as dark, cloaked, ugly... The truth is, satan usually comes across as very good looking; whether as a person or concept or action. He entices us, so it would appear to be a happy, or at least pleasant.
We are all tripped up by him in some way at some time.

Usually because demons are associated with darkness and the unknownm we vizualize a dark being, hence the black cloack. As for the unappealing appearance, because most would describe evil as a disgusting thing and when we try to picture the worst thing ever, we usually picture a disgusting abnormal being. But really Satan and the demons are nothing more than fallen angels, I usually picture demons with their wings ripped off...

The dark presence that people are afraid of, "Satan", is nothing more than your false self that builds through the society and conditioning that we live in in the material world. That's what makes people love money, wealth and power, corruption, and makes them think of their needs as more important than that of other people. That's the true nature of Satan, not the red demon with horns and a pitchfork sitting in the fire and brimstone.
Your true self, your true ego, is actually the real human condition, which is of love, as per God.

Nobody has seen a demon but a few people who went to Hell and came back. They will look ugly because they have been living in hatred of God for a long time and their twisted inner person makes their face ugly and twisted.
They don't wear any clothing. The ones I heard of are covered with scales and are uglier than ugly. Terrifying is the word.

Actually Scripture says Satan was one of the most beautiful and the brightest of the angels before he fell.
Satan often tempts us with things that appear to be beautiful and desirable, but once we taste of the fruit of sin we find that sin brings death and decay, which are ugly and hideous.
You can't always judge a book by its cover.

Satan is the" most beautiful" of all. Which is just the opposite of what most people think he is.
Eze 28:17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

Because people are all about stereotypes.
Even a lot of angels would look odd to us. What is beautiful to God may not be beautiful to us. There are "beautiful" angels with 4 faces, many hands, etc...

well I never actually saw a demon but I was influenced by one almost to the point of joining a cult. I thought it was an angel, but it was one of those "angels of lights." Demons in the guise of Angels. Demons are just fallen Angels after all.
