Most likely, it spread by a little bit of everything, though from what I understand of Buddhist history, most Indian warlords didn't embrace it, meaning 1 is minimized.

Should be 4. Buddhism was spread by Chinese to the Korean and Japanese and not the other way around.
For philipramis, not everyone spread religions like what the christians do, through war, conquest and colonisation.

i don't know the EXACT way in which it spread but this much i know---never was a SINGLE drop of blood shed in the name of converting people to buddhism because buddhism is not about converting.
anybody can practice buddhism alongside their religion.
definitely NOT (1).....if you read up on indian history, especially King Asoke, you will see that he was a war maniac before he became a buddhist-he was called
Chanda-asoka:which means "cruel Asoka"
after he became a Buddhist ,he stopped warring and after that was so kind and benevolent that people named him Dharma-asoka:dharmic Asoka

I've always heard that Country Crock (TM) is the prefered spread of Buddhists, but I don't know that for certain. I do know that Shintoists like Parkay (TM) best. Hope this helps!

Buddhism is a reflection of the truth. People understood it, admired it, and so spread it.
