There are two types of anxiety that I am aware of.

One is unfounded and sometimes inexplicable: this runs in my family -- I am much more prone to anxiety than the average person, even when it seems as though nothing is causing it. This first form of anxiety is similar to depression.

Then there is the anxiety that anyone can ascertain from a stressful activity. This is what I would assume you speak of, because there is no definite 'cure' for indescribable anxiety.

My personal method to cope with anxiety is to try to put things in perspective. This is admittedly very difficult for me, and I often fret about the small things -- which at the time seem much more important than they actually are. It's one of my greatest social downfalls. Yet when I can put things in perspective, my anxiety quickly subsides.

It is mind over matter essentially. You ask yourself this when you feel an attack coming on; is this a rational fear? If not, then you need to focus on that fact. Deep, slow breathing, not thinking of fear but of control and rational thought.

We should be afraid of things that threaten us, that is normal, but it is abnormal to be in fear of nothing but a thought.
