He has been a wonderful vet for the last 15 yrs, but he is getting up there in the years and I am afraid my lab is so frisky, he will knock him down or be too rough. I really need a new vet, but would really like the old one to see my dog still. Should I just look in the yellow pages?

No. Ask your current vet, about other vets he would recommend who would be able to handle your frisky young Labrador. Keep in mind, just because he's elderly, doesn't mean he's fragile. If he thought he would get hurt in the business, he'd retire into something safer.

You would be so surprised at how these older ppl can be hon. I have a blockhead lab and is almost 100 pounds that is just over a yr and a very high spirited brittany spaniel that is just a few months older then the lab. They go to the vets at the same time and see the same vetinarian and he is 85 yrs old. He came highly recommended to me when I moved here and cares for both my dogs, all my birds, my 5 horses as well as the cattle on our ranch. My lab as caused me such embarrassement jumping up on him but he didnt freak out. And trust me when I say there will always be a dog more frisky or high spirited then yours that comes to him

I'd like to suggest finding out who if anyone is taking over his practice if no one is ask him for a recommendation. Otherwise ask your friends or check out the yellow pages

Ask your vet for a recommendation. You also have the right to interview new vets. Call and tell them your are looking for a new vet and they will be more than happy to set aside sometime for you and your dog to go in and meet them. Ask as many questions as you need to but make sure you take the dog along because the dog is the one who will be more up close and personal with the vet.

First see who is taking over the practice, usually the new vet will be there while the old one is still working. If not talk to pet owners in your area and see who they use and recommend

Ask him to recommend another man, if he is going to retire, he will probably sell his business to another vet, so you could continue on with him. If he has managed for all those years, he will certainly know how to control your dog, no matter how big he gets. Keep trusting and just ask him, he will tell you what his plans are. Best wishes

Ask your vet to recommend a good vet. Tell him you want to have one lined up for when he retires. I am sure he will be happy to recommend someone.

some one will probably take over his practice, but if not check on line...most breeds have specific sites and will help you find a vet near your home specific for your dog :) You could also post a question on here and add the city where you are near...people in your home town could help :) Good luck.

If you feel comfortable doing so, ask your current vet if he can recommend anyone. If you have family or friends, with pets, ask them which vet they use and how well they like him/her.

You should go to a PetsMart that has a vet called "Banfield". That's where I take my dog (Bugg) and it is very well organized. They have plans that you can get to pay your vet bills that are a lot like insurance, where you can take your dog in ANYTIME for ANY problems and not have to pay for the actual visit. All you have to pay for is any medication they give you to take home to give to your dog yourself. Yah, and Bugg is very hyper too. He is a Min Pin.
