Pit bulls are loving friendly and great companions. they are only brought up or raised by owners who train them to be dangerous. I think its great you want the dog inside with you! They can be protective but no more so than any german sheaphaerd or doberman.

Pit Bulls are great dogs and very smart. If you work with your puppy everyday he should do fine in the house. I have had four pits myself not counting the five 6 week old puppies that I am raising right now and I have not had very much trouble with mine. The first one I had died about 5 years ago of cancer at the age of 14 . He was a wonderful dog. If you take the time to socialize your puppy with other dogs in the nighborhood and let him meet new people you will be fine. Not all pit bulls are dangerous but there are a few that are. Its all in the way you raise them. My puppies have been handled since they were just hours old and love human contact. they also love to play with other dogs. The best thing I can tell you to do is socialize your puppy and keep his training up to date.

Obedience train him and neuter him. Google Nothing In Life is Free and buy Cesar Millan's book Cesar's Way and perhaps get his videos and watch his show on Nat. Geo.

Pits are great dogs, but you have to be in charge all the time.

The danger is that if they bite, they can do amazing amounts of damage. They also can be amazing dogs and do great things. A Pit just saved a man's life the other day by alerting his owner to a fire and then later alerting again that the house fire wasn't out. Thanks to this Pit an elderly man was saved from his burning house.

But they are not a breed for just anyone. They are smart and very strong and can become dog aggressive very easily.

Keep the dog well exercised, well fed and trained and keep him busy and you should have a great dog. They love having a job, whether that is competing in Obedience, Therapy work or Weight pulls...something to keep the mind busy.

Great breed for your situation. Since you're getting it as a puppy things will be better than with an older dog.. You will still have to go through the whole puppy chew thing but you will enjoy your dog for years to come. A pit bull is a wonderful companion as long as you raise it with love and affection. No matter what you read they are not vicious dogs. They are strong minded and very loyal to their owners. Some pit bulls do not like other dogs. My pit bull plays with other dogs but his sister will not let another dog in it's yard. So watch out for that little bit. Please don't clip your new dogs ears or tail. It makes them look vicious and I see no use in ever doing that. Believe me you will get enough attention without doing that.
Anyway, once you get past the growing up chewing and peeing thing you will love it for a long time. e mail me if you have any more questions about pit bulls or if you need training tips.

As a general rule Pit bulls are no more dangerous as a poodle or any other breed-it is all in how they are raised! Please do not believe the media scare that Pits are always going to attack everyone they come across because like I said it is true of ANY breed. They are wonderful house dogs and very good family pets. They do need to have training and you should try to get them socialized to other dogs and different people as early as possible to prevent the dog from having a fear of new things. They are also very smart and catch on quickly. I have be owned by mine for 3 years now and she is the sweetest dog.

I have a pit bull and she is the sweetest thing. But we have worked with her, they need to be socialized, trained and lots of exercise. You have to be the top dog or they will try you. Mine is inside my house as part of my family. I would take classes or do some reading on training if you don't know already. Its great when you can start training them at a puppy age. They take alot of work and time but are worth it in the end. Good Luck on your new puppy!

Pit bulls are, generally, very sweet-natured dogs. It's bad breeding and bad owners that cause these dogs to become aggressive. Is the breeder reputable? Have you checked out the puppy's parents? Have they (the parents) been screened for heath problems and are their temperaments sound? If you decide to get this puppy, I highly recommend enrolling yourself & the puppy in an obedience class. They are sweet dogs but can be hard-headed, at times.

You should really read up on the breed and know your local laws.

Right or wrong, some cities are really cracking down on pit bull owners and how they are allowed to interact with neighbors and the public, like what happens if he gets out of the house by accident and neighbors complain.
Make sure you have training lined up before you get him and most importantly, the breeder should have impeccable credentials. Don't be afraid to ask for references.

I think it requires a great commitment on the owner part to train and take responsibility with pits.

A pit bull is in general a very loving dog you just need to remember do not hit the dog if you hit him he will learn that aggression is what to do if you let him know with a strong voice that he did rong he will learn,Every dog that when they are hit or left alone or not socialized will get aggressive, but if you tack him to the dog park and let him play with others he will learn haw to be good and play nice that even helps with people let others pet him and please don't hit a dog a paper on the butt is just for the loud sound that it macks.I have a rottweiler and I was told they are aggressive but I still have not seen my 9year old boy teddy to ever be aggressive. I have never hit him or anything cruel to him and he is so loving he still Gard's me and lets no one in the yard when I am not home.

We have 2 pit bulls and they are very sweet. But they have LOTS of energy that needs to be channeled into vigorous exercise. Long dog walks are a must to keep their energy properly managed. They are easy to take care of except that their bodies are made of armor (almost) and they can cause some bruising just by jumping on you or if their tails havn't been docked it feels like a whip or a pipe when it hits you. Do socialize them early and often. Also their skin is tough and can have problems. They can be hard to give shots or get blood. They NEVER act as if they hurt because of their breeding to a very high tolerance of pain. OUrs are in the house, but I repeat that their high energy requires you to exercise them every day! Also besure that they KNOW with a certainty that you are the pack leader! I recommend you to watch Ceaser Milan on The Dog Whisperer on National Geographic channel. Or get his book. He isn't a basic obedience trainer..he works with the more vigorous and harder to handle dogs on remaining social.
