To my understanding, there have been over 40 (or at least 20) different edited versions of the Book of Mormon. The "problem" with this is that the "faithful" are to accept the "latest and greatest" version as if it were the original, one, true version. And they are to act as if ALL the prior versions never existed.... even if they have one lying around the house! It's sort of like the church leaders are saying, "Hey, we just got some NEW revelations about the Book of Mormon, and there were some corrections to be made... so here's the new one for you. Oh, and if you thought there were any prior versions of it, you're wrong... THIS is the one, true, infallable version of the Book of Mormon."
The problem with this "editing" process is that, IF the Book of Mormon were a true "testament" of God/Jesus, then it should have been correct, complete, and infallable in the first place. The Bible, while it has undergone translations, it has not undergone EDITING, especially to the wholesale amount that the Book of Mormon has.

It's funny you ask this question, Starsha; I just read about this very subject in an interesting book called "The Latter-Day Saints in the Modern Day World". I read that Martin Harris, Joseph Smith's original scribe, was being nagged by his wife, Mrs. Harris, to see the 116 pages. She, apparently, thought that her husband was wasting his time when he should have been farming. Martin Harris got Joe's permission to lend the papers to him which Joe "would regret the decision when he discovered that Harris had lost the manuscript. Mrs. Harris probably appropriated [stole] the manuscript and destroyed it, since it has never been found".
"Smith...confronted his scribe. Harris confessed the carelessness and cried, "I have lost my soul!" Smith himself groaned, "Oh, my God. All is lost. What shall I do?"
"Smith's solution was to appeal to God for a revelation. The Lord told him to forget about re-translating the first 116 pages. A set of small plates called the plates of Nephi happened to cover the same ground as the missing pages."
So, there you have it: for some reason God never wanted anyone else to see the first 116 pages. Go figure. :)

the unique 116 pages of the e book of Mormon have been stolen by technique of anti-mormon communities, in an attempt to attempt to "practice" that the mormon church is pretend. the plan of people who didnt trust the mormon faith replaced into to coach how the texts didnt journey, and that their replica replaced into the main unique (because of the time stamp), however the lacking pages have been on no account re-translated, to ward off precisely what replaced into defined above. the unique text fabric has no longer been burned, it merely has no longer been re-written, i doubt that the church would save its very own texts to persecute anybody...and yeah. thats the place the lacking e book of lehi is now. in case you have any extra questions, be at liberty to IM or digital mail me

The pages that contained that scripture were stolen and changed so they were never included into the Book of Mormon.

They were stolen and I assume they are no longer around. Joseph was told not to translate them again because the guys who stole them would make changes to the writings and make him look like a false prophet. I suppose in the millenium, we will have access to the plates again and be able to read them.

It has been edited. I have different years and there are missing verses. Drinking was once OK. D&C bans hard drink but goes on to say soft drink is OK. It has been removed as they are not allowed to drink at all anymore.

We don't know.
They are still lost. Maybe God destroyed them.
