I send my 7 yr old to bed at 8, never any later than 8:30 on weeknights, but it depends on what time they have to get up in the morning. We get up at 6:45 so that we can get his shower and breakfast in before he has to catch the bus at 7:20.

I have an 8 year old and she goes to bed at 9:00. She gets up at 7:30 so this is plenty of sleep for her. If your child has to be up earlier then I would move the bedtime to 8 or 8:30.

My 7 and 9 year olds go to bed at 8:30. Their friends parents also say 8:30 is the normal bedtime for their children as well.

My son goes to bed at 9:00pm and he is 11. If he has major testing the following day, bedtime is 8:30.

My 8 year old had a schoolnight 8pm bedtime until the darned time change, and now that it's light out with all the neighbourhood kids playing and laughing, her bedtime has moved to 8:30. she is, however, allowed to have reading time when she is in bed.

On weekends, we try to aim for 9pm, but sometimes we watch a family movie together or something like that.

You are setting the stage for years to come!!! 8pm. is common but not always possible. My kids both had activities that sometimes kept us out later. There were times we wanted to unwind without the kids & watch a show at 9pm with peace & quiet. Don't you deserve it? Then they turn into teens & say but I'm so old now.... Give yourself the quality time you need or you will become exhausted. I gave them the option of earning the time to stay up later on the weekend nights (Fri & Sat) if they were good all week & went to bed when they were supposed too. Hope that helps.

it all goes by how much sleep they really need. my 7 year old needs 12 hours where as my 6 year old nephew needs only 9. most elementry school age kids should be in bed by 8 pm to 9 pm. if your 8 year old is having trouble getting out of bed get them in bed sooner. it may take a week to get use to a new schedual but it would pay off with an easier morning.

i start the bed time routine at 6:30 with a bath until 7, and then reading books and stories until 7:30 or 8...my son is currently 8 years old and wakes up at 7....he needs the routine and eleven hours of sleep, but children differ...this is what we do...i know that kids need at least 10 hours

See how well your child functions on certain hours of sleep. When you come to a time that allows for enough sleep, that should be their bedtime.

My son went to bed at 10 and got up at 6:30, which gives him 8 full hours of sleep. Some children require more than that.

Do what works for you.
