No, not upset at all. He was not a role model, unless one looks up to intolerant bigots who use a bully pulpit to incite more prejudice and hardship for people, as you can see from some of his statements:
"AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals."
"The idea that religion and politics don't mix was invented by the Devil to keep Christians from running their own country."
"I do question the sincerity of people like the Reverend Martin Luther King."
"Labor unions should study and read the Bible instead of asking for more money. When people get right with God, they are better workers."
"I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU... I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen" (regarding the 9/11 attacks).
"Christians, like slaves and soldiers, ask no questions"
"Textbooks are Soviet propaganda"
"Billy Graham is the chief servant of Satan."
Wait! Billy Graham is the chief servant of Satan??? Is that what Falwell expected his faithful flock to believe???

I'm not upset.
Narrow minded bigoted twit. I can only imagine the conversations he's having with his God, desperately trying to weasle his way into what he called Heaven.
Seriously, the guy created pure drama over a purple Teletubbie with a purse. How much of a God loving man do you have to pretend to be to bash a childrens TV character? Surprised he didn't trash Bugs Bunny for wearing dresses and make-up while chasing Elmer Fudd.

Perhaps if you were more open minded about others you would not feel that way. Jerry Falwell, while I'm not a big fan, was a staunch Christian. Did he ever fall? Yes. Did he ever repent before God? I think so.
I feel saddened by his death for the fact that he had a lot of people who gleaned from his services, they found a way to reach God with him. Now he is gone, they have to find another person to worship with.
Biggot? Are Muslims biggots? Are Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormons or Presbyterians? They all believe mainly the same things with variances in Doctrine. Some vary further than others. Almost all reject homosexuality, drugs, pop culture (when it takes mainstream paths). You know, those things which the Bible teaches are wrong.
Yes, I guess I am saddened but not lost. Thank you for making me look at this closer.

Actually Daisymae, you're incorrect.
I judge him, and I say he was a fricken nutjob. That wouldn't be so bad, but he was also a hateful nutjob. And even though he was a crazy nutjob, he caused a lot of good, ethical people pain and hardship and sadness.
That's not a good person. That's an ******. I'm not God, and I have no control over his immortal soul, but that's how I judge the works of this man.

No one takes pleasure about anyone's death. But there certainly are a lot of jokes going on in Maryland and DC about Falwell. There's one thinh for sure, he can't take the money he takes from Rev. Moon to expand his wealth to hell with him.
Didn't he publicly pray for long life? What he had done to spread division in America and how he stirred the vulnerables and encourage those equally ugly Christian-Right maniacs and frauds to act like him, and promoted the election of Bush to put so many to their deaths in Iraq, he'd probably be burning in hell. Because of Jerry Falwell, many gays had died - either by suicide of murdered. Who knows, probably the ghosts of the dead have dragged him off from earth before he carries more and more danger to America. Hope his followers will be inflicted with dreams of his lost soul's hellish experience from now on. Well, I don't know how many more souls will be dragged away from Earth by the ghosts of the dead in Iraq? We'll just have to wait and watch.
This is the real Jerry Falwell:

Because of Jerry Falwell, the radical American Christianity is promoted through Moonies' funding.

The Moon-Falwell Connection has created far too many fradulent faith leaderships. Take Ralph Reed, Pat Robertson and Ted Haggert for instance.
Maybe someone should organize sending Teletubbies and Sponge Bobs to his funeral service! If Falwell is remembered, it's his laughable connection to Teletubbies and Sponge Bob! LOL

I never cared for what little I heard him preach, and I think that he had much to say that was an aberration to Christianity, but I don't have a grudge against the guy. His family must be missing him.

Why would anyone be upset? He was the Hitler of religion. All that he stood for was hate and inequality for all who didn't believe in his GD religion.
He has shamed this country far too long. Our country has not progressed socially, scientifically, or economically for over 20 years due to the Moral Majority-crap ...
Thanks Jesus-Freaks!

I guess I'm one of those "crazies from the Bible Belt", or maybe I am just a human being, because I care when another human being dies. He seemed like a fine Christian man who stood up for what he believed in, no matter how much he was criticized. He devoted his entire life to his God, country and family and started one of the finest universities in the country. Sounds like a fine southern christian gentleman to me. I find it interesting that some people love to put down Christians, but hold morally corrupt people up as their idols, heros, etc. Rest in peace Reverend.

In all honesty? No. He was a self righteous jerk and I have trouble pitying the death of someone like that. Especially when he was calling gays vile beasts and tripe like that. My words are harsh, but he was a harsh jerk who used his faith to crap on people.
Nope. No tears shed on my end.

Everybody dies. He was 73 and had a bad heart, and his time was up. Whatever his sins or merits, it's between him & his creator now. However anyone views him, no one can deny that he had a huge influence on our society, and it will be felt for years to come.
