I like the Remington myself your paying the extra hundred for the name . Both weapons are fine

I dont think they get more accurate from the factory than a Remington 700 myself . Its my rifle of choice . I am not afraid to use my remington , I hunt in the mountains and have been rough on my rifle , heck it even serves as a walking stick in some steep hills it hasnt ever let me down and I have truly field tested mine and have no complaints.
As a matter of fact if I miss a animal or target I cannot blame the rifle its all me..

Edit : I prefer the wood stocks for 2 reasons one it looks better in my opinion the second is that if I am walking through brush and a limb hits that synthetic stock it make a more unnatural noise than wood and possibly will spook a deer

Take the extra hundred dollars and invest it in a good scope

Bound's hubby here:

In theory, the Browning A-bolt has a shorter bolt throw which means a quicker follow-up shot (bolt throw would be the total linear distance involved in lifting the bolt handle, moving the bolt back, moving it forward and locking the bolt). In my opinion, the Browning A-bolt is mission specific for hunting only. The Remington 700 SPS, especially if you get the SPS Varmint, is more versatile for the shooter (target and hunting) and accessories for both missions are readily available. If I were you, I would get the 700 SPS Varmint (in .308) and apply your savings to a good, high quality scope.

I have a Remington 700 Varmint Special that is serving me well as a 1000 yard target rifle. I would not hesitate if I had to take off the target accessories and put it in a hunting stock and use it for hunting.

While both the Remington and the Browning have reputations for quality, I believe you will get more varsatility and more bang for the buck with the Remington.

Good luck.

I have a Remington 700 chambered in .308 and it shoots great. Most police snipers use Remington model 700s also in .308.
I would spend the extra $100 on reloading equipment and when you make custom loads for your rifle you might be amazed at how good you can make it shoot. My favorite bullet for the .308 is a Hornady 150 grain soft point boat tail. It's cheap, accurate, and performs well on deer.

You won't go wrong with either one. I like the Remington, but the Browning A-bolt is an excellent rifle. My brother-in-law had two A-bolts, in .243 & .270 (before his house was burglarized); they were excellent shooters. Of course, I can shoot my .25-06 Remington 700 just as accurately.

Go with the Remington they are fine rifles and no deer is going to complain that you shot him with a Remington instead of a Browning. Besides with that $100 you can buy some more ammo to practice with.

I'm an old fart and prefer wood to the synthetic stocks, but I also own more 700's than any other model, and prefer them to my more expensive rifles in many situations. I don't own an A-bolt, simply because I never cared for the lines and look of the things. Both are fine rifles, though, so put it up to personal preference and do what you want without worry.

#1 Best choice is Remington for value and quality and accuracy >You could always buy a used one and save more $$$... I buy all my firearms used, and let the other guy pay the new price..Makes sense to me.. No regrets ever...

What you get for that extra $100 is bragging rights. You get to show your buddies your new rifle and say, "Yep, this here's a Browning." What your buddies will say is, "You paid too much for it" and what they will be thinking is, "Damn, that is a nice rifle, wish I could afford one".

Go for the Browning. It only money. You can always rob another liquor store for more cash.
