you were (is not tu eres like some idiots said)-estuviste if your using the preterite-estar. fuiste for preterite-ser (sorry that's you went. there is nothing for here). eras for imperfect-ser. estabas for imperfect-estar.

The preterite is a past used to describe things with a definate start and end (one point in time). The imperfect does not have a definate start or end (could be said to say someone was doing something over a period of time). There's more to it, but that's the basic.

Ser (to be) is used to describe someone/something physically (he is blue=his skin is blue). Estar is used to describe someone mentally (he is blue=he's sad). Again, there's more to it, but that's the basic.

Hope this didn't bore you and actually helped.

Have a great summer = que tengas un buen verano (singular, informal) or que tenga un buen verano (singular, formal) or que tengan un buen verano (plural, LatinAmerica)

You were... = fuiste..., estuviste..., eras..., estabas... (singular, informal)

The translation of "you were" may vary depending on the context

Hope that helps ;)

Spanish is so complex!...

YOU WERE:

From the verb "ser", imperfect tense:
(Tú) eras.
(Usted) era.
(Vosotros) érais.
(Ustedes) eran.

From the verb "estar", imperfect tense:

(Tú) estabas.
(Usted) estaba.
(Vosotros) estábais.
(Ustedes) estaban.

From the verb "ser", preterit:

(Tú) fuiste.
(Usted) fue.
(Vosotros) fuisteis.
(Ustedes) fueron.

From the verb "estar", preterit:

(Tú) estuviste.
(Usted) estuvo.
(Vosotros) estuvísteis.
(Ustedes) estuvieron.

Note: "vosotros" is only used in Spain.

HAVE A GREAT SUMMER:

¡Que tengas/tenga/tengáis/tengan un verano excelente!

I know this is long and complicated... I hope it's helpful, though.
Good luck.
