Would you move to live in a compound in Nigeria for 3 years with your husband (for his work) and two primary school aged children for USD450,000 for the 3 years? All accomodation and food etc would also be included. That would mean we could pay off our huge mortgage and then move back to Australia without struggling financially. Has anyone done this already or knows someone that has? What facilities are in the compounds?

Whew! That's a lot of isolation!! Usually in those situations, the children have to go somewhere else for school---?? But even if they don't, you sure have to be a sturdy person and be able to hold your own with the other wives! They usually have a hierachy in the wive's "club" and you pretty much should be able to enjoy bridge/or socializing with them!! The men are usually busy working a lot. If you had a chance to teach or volunteer in the compound or be able to interact with the Nigerian community, that could be a great opportunity to learn the language and culture. Otherwise, that could seem like a sentence! I lived in Japan in the old days, but got to live off-base in one wing of a Japanese family home. I took language lessons; learned to read the native system which was phonetic and could travel around on my own! The women on base were afraid to come into town--when in actuality, rape and assault in Japan was unkn in those days. I profited greatly from the experience! I have no idea what the country of Nigeria is like--do some research--AND so plans on what you would do with the money at the end! Solid Goals could make the 3 yrs go more smoothly and maybe a little quicker! (Maybe teach English to some school children---etc. Find something that you could develop yourself and find interest in besides your children!

Personally I wouldn't do it. Happiness is more important than money.
