She's 2 years old and we were just now in the living room. She was playing with my birthing ball after I told her not to several times. I guess she was intrested because it was bigger than any of hers, anyway, like I knew would happen, she fell and hit her head really hard on the entertainment center which is made of wood and glass. I can tell by the sound that she hit the wooden part of it. I'm unsure what part of her head she hit because it's completely red from all the crying. I know she hit really hard because I can tell with her cry and how loud it was. Anyway, she's asleep now, this happened 10 minutes ago. I don't think the hit knocked her out because she hasn't had her nap today and she was already really sleepy. Anyway what should I watch out for and should I let her sleep or should I wake her up? I already called the doctor I'm just waiting for a callback.

I'm sure she's ok that's why I let her go to sleep. I felt for a bump and checked for a cut and found nothing. I have a good instinct on knowing whether something is really wrong with my daughter and I'm pretty sure she's ok I just wanted to know what I should pay attention to. She was fine after a while of crying and was even laughing but fell asleep soon after.

Goodness! the people on here are going to freak you out. She should be fine. In the future check to make sure her eyes aren't unequally dilated. If she was lethargic or unresponsive or vomiting I would worry but it just sounds like she was tired and bumped her head. Had a good cry that wore her out more and now she's sleeping.
The thing about not letting someone fall asleep after they hit their heads is if they are non responsive or can't stay awake when they weren't tired beforehand. Not for a child that was already sleepy and that stayed awake long enough to cry and come to mommy afterwards.

Go wake her up, anytime she falls and hits her head keep her awake for an hour. Make sure you exam her head, if the spot she hit does not form a goose egg and goes in instead take her to the ER. Make sure she can recongnize her name, make sure she isn't vomiting, or having any type of drainage through her nose, no visual problems.
Apply ice to the bruised area to minimize the swelling. A bump (goose egg) often develops. The size of the bump does not suggest the severity of the injury. A small bump may be serious, and a large bump may mean only a minor injury.
Observe the victim carefully. Symptoms of bleeding inside the head usually occur within the first 24 to 72 hours.
A typical minor head injury occurs when a victim runs into someone or something and bangs his or her head. A bump usually begins to form on the stunned victim. The person may vomit once or twice in the first few hours. He or she may nap after all the excitement, but arouse easily. Neither pupil is enlarged. Within eight hours, the person is back to normal, except for the prominent goose egg swelling.

When my daughter fell off the changing table at Walmart onto a concrete surface I was told to let her sleep esp. if I knew she was tired. The doctor said that the back or front of the head was the best place to get hit but that a side hit close to the eye was more problematic. I knew where she had hit so.....I think you should check her eyes and keep a watch over her until the doctor tells you what to do. And look for obvious bumps...my daughter had a huge knot on the front of her head. Look for one to form.

Make sure to check the spot where she hit for a little cut. Wake her up. Once someone hits their head, they are not to sleep for at least a hour later. Keep calling the Dr. Don't wait on him to call back. Hope she will be okay!!

The doctor will say to wake her up every so often. My daughter took her first crawl off the changing table at 6 months... All i did was reach for a diaper to find her falling right on her head... Wake up call! I was petrified, I called a nurseline, and she told me (as i was crying more than my daughter) if she can move her arms and legs, and her head that shes fine, also unequal pupils can be a sign of head injury. Anyway, she went right to sleep also.. the nurse told me to wake her up every so often, but my instinct told me she was ok, so i let her sleep. I did take her to the doc the next day to be sure. Dont forget to listen to your instinct.. if it tells you to rush her to the ER, then do it.. if it tells you to let her sleep, do that. Good luck

As long as she didn't throw up afterwards, or pass out immediately after it happened (which she didn't), I'm sure she's fine. She had a good crying fit, plus she was tired to begin with, so I'm sure thats why she's fast asleep. Kids are so resilient, and I know the kind of ball you're talking about and its not that far of a fall I can't imagine its serious. But its good you called the doctor as a precaution, I'd wait and see what he says and go from there. No need to needlessly wake her up unless the doctor says so. Hope she's fine!!!

NEVER EVER let a child go to sleep directly following a head injury. WAKE HER UP. Wait for that call. Check her pupils. Are they unresponsive? If so, get her to the dr. Do not wait on the call.

When some one hits their head you are always supposed to keep them awake incase they have a concusion. Wake her up and watch for drowsiness and watch to see if you think she is acting any differnt than normal, if some thing does not seem right then you need to take her to the emergency room!

if a child hits their head like that you need to take them to the er. she could have a concussion, an internal head injury you cannot see on the outside. you cant know without taking her if its a serious injury or not. its also not at all a good idea that you let her go to sleep. get her up, go to the hospital...god forbid she didnt really hurt herself.

wake her up and keep her awake for an hour, if she is okay after that then let the child go to sleep, the crying probably just put her to sleep, but better to be safe than sorry.
