Probably no leave unless it had already been requested and approved. Most will get a 72, some a 96 (that's hours of liberty) and the 'unlucky' ones will get the duty.

Provided the work schedule permits, military members are given all Federal holidays off. That means that 28 May, provided he's not at sea or have special duty, he will be off.

In the Army, that will be a 4 day weekend (Fri - Mon), I don't know about the USN. The only military folks working will be MPs and Medical.

Needs of the Navy come first. It is up to his CO if they get a three day weekend or not. If they are underway or doing work-up's to get underway then probably not. CO has the last word and he won't put the word out to the very last second on Friday so people can't make huge plans to drive 1000 miles over a three day weekend. Standard operating procedure for the Navy.

for most commands it will be duty section only that day. otherwise, no time off, unless he has already rquested Leave, inwhich case it counts as a Leave Day.

SOME commands give the duty section a different day off the same week (typically Friday so they have their own 3 day weekend) when they have to work on a National Holiday. Not all though.

Yes, most military have Memorial day off. But not all. There are always active duty folk working every day of the year. My hubby has the day off, but it will be spent at a military cemetery participating in a Memorial Day service, honoring those who have gone before him. It's pretty much how we spend every Memorial day.

It depends on your job. I was a 24/7 shop and I got a holiday and weekend off only if I was lucky or I took leave. My sister who was in supply enjoyed all the holidays and weekends.

For holidays they usually get what they call 4 day weekends and sometimes 3 day weekends. For 4 day weekends they usually get friday, saturday, sunday and monday off (or sometimes any combination of that sort that still includes saturday and sunday). The same thing pertains to 3 days.

All depends on the unit. I get a four day weekend, but I have buddies who work shift, and just get an extra day off somewhere in there.
