Here are some things Jerry said:
You'll be riding along in an automobile. You'll be the driver perhaps. You're a Christian. There'll be several people in the automobile with you, maybe someone who is not a Christian. When the trumpet sounds you and the other born-again believers in that automobile will be instantly caught away -- you will disappear, leaving behind only your clothes and physical things that cannot inherit eternal life. That unsaved person or persons in the automobile will suddenly be startled to find the car suddenly somewhere crashes.... Other cars on the highway driven by believers will suddenly be out of control and stark pandemonium will occur on ... every highway in the world where Christians are caught away from the drivers wheel.
AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals. To oppose it would be like an Israelite jumping in the Red Sea to save one of Pharoah's chariotters.
Grown men should not be having sex with prostitutes unless they are married to them.
The Jews are returning to their land of unbelief. They are spiritually blind and desperately in need of their Messiah and Savior.
If we are going to save America and evangelize the world, we cannot accommodate secular philosophies that are diametrically opposed to Christian truth ... We need to pull out all the stops to recruit and train 25 million Americans to become informed pro-moral activists whose voices can be heard in the halls of Congress.
I am convinced that America can be turned around if we will all get serious about the Master's business. It may be late, but it is never too late to do what is right. We need an old-fashioned, God-honoring, Christ-exalting revival to turn American back to God. America can be saved!
I hope I live to see the day when, as in the early days of our country, we won't have any public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them. What a happy day that will be!
Christians, like slaves and soldiers, ask no questions
Textbooks are Soviet propaganda
The whole (global warming) thing is created to destroy America's free enterprise system and our economic stability
“(re: 9/11 attacks) "...throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools, the abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked and when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad...I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way, all of them who try to secularize America...I point the thing in their face and say you helped this happen."”
"I believe that global warming is a myth. And so, therefore, I have no conscience problems at all and I'm going to buy a Suburban next time."
"If I were president of the United States, I would include Moslems in my presidency."
"I think the Moslem faith teaches hate."

I'll admit, they're not as amusing as some things I've heard from Pat Robertson.

I heard that he died at his desk at that university he started. If that's true, then he may have died "happy" because he was in the middle of doing something he cared about.
I hope that I can get at least half the fervor he had for whatever cause I know and feel is right. People of his intensity are bound to draw attention, both good and bad. I am going to presume that if I find something I like and become good and committed to it as well, I too would have some supporters and some critics.
So in that sense, hopefully each of us reading this thread will find their individual passion, whatever that is, and make that a driving force in each of our lives. Dr. Jerry Falwell successfully found his. Can each of us find our own and be intense about it, much like he found his individual passion and went with it?
I'm hoping that these words may inspire someone to do great things. It could be making a major motion picture. It could be building a new hospital for children. It could be creating a new painting. There are many "It could be..." posibilities.
Which one will be yours?
Sincerely,
Alvin R.

Ten bucks says they change the name of Liberty University to Falwell Memorial University.
On a more somber note, I wonder if they'll let the Teletubbies be pallbearers.

1st Thessalonians 4:13-18 Our friends, we want you to know the truth about those who have died, so that you will not be sad, as are those who have no hope.
We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will take back with Jesus those who have died believing in him.
What we are teaching you now is the Lord's teaching: we who are alive on the day the Lord comes will not go ahead of those who have died.
There will be the shout of command, the archangel's voice, the sound of God's trumpet, and the Lord himself will come down from heaven. Those who have died believing in Christ will rise to life first;
then we who are living at that time will be gathered up along with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord.
So then, encourage one another with these words.
Agree or disagree with his politics - I'm looking forward to us all meeting in the air!
Peace!

All in all JF was an overstretched rubber band.. Fun to watch because you never knew when he would snap and something more bizarre than the last comment would escape him...

Doctor? With 3 degrees of my own, complacency is the tool of the devil and were "Dr. Falwell" as learned as I, he would have had more of the compassion Jesus gave the world, rather he "spit" upon all Jesus taught and why he suffered for all of us......

He thought he was doing the work of God.. It is depressing to see another life extinguished and society becomes no wiser to the fact that we will all die and cease to exist. The sooner we come to this conclusion the sooner we start to find ways to prolong life and give it more meaning.
Farewell, Flawell you will never know that it was all made up.

I believe Human Rights Campaign
president Joe Solmonese said it best.
“Reverend Falwell’s death today causes my thoughts to turn toward the members of our community who have at great personal sacrifice contended with the Reverend’s work and teachings," said Human Rights Campaign president Joe Solmonese.
"As I remember Reverend Falwell’s life, I also remember all of the families of people who have died of AIDS,” said Solmonese.
"Reverend Falwell’s legacy is not about the tenants of Jesus’ ministry such as healing the sick and standing with the disenfranchised but about shunning and ridiculing those who have suffered and died of AIDS and their families. Many faith leaders today are moving away from his divisive approach and toward the compassion and inclusiveness that Jesus modeled every day of his ministry.”
