OK to try to be as unbiased as I can be here goes....... I am someone who quit smoking after 23 years of suffering with this habit. I don't in anyway agree with recent laws in certain cities that don't allow people to even smoke outside because it's not right and I don't agree with the government telling business owners that they can't let people smoke in their own establishment. It's wrong and that's that. But as a former smoker I can say and will say that I will probably die before my overweight friends will because I slowly killed myself and aged myself faster. I am 39 years old and feel like I am 59. I have COPD and will probably be on oxygen 24 hours a day by time I am 60. My death will be slow and agonizing as my lungs will not be able to function properly on day and it will hurt to breathe. Now as for fat people..... your right I think they should consider watching their diet because of the risk of heart disease and such and even though it could be a medical condition that causes their obesity, they should do what it takes to eat healthy so they don't cause the condition to get worse. In other words it is proven to be healthier to eat at Subway than Big Macs at McDonald's. However, smoking is a habit that not only hurts the smoker but it hurts the people around them too. all 3 of my daughters have chronic bronchitis and allergies as a result of my smoking but they are not fat because Aunt Bea ate too much........... Either way it's no one's right to say anything about one's right to smoke and kill themselves just as it's no one's right to tell someone they are fat and killing themselves. We all just need to remember that period.

I don't think in either case, yelling is warranted...Both problems are most likely an addiction. When someone over eats they are taxing their system and it will lead to physical problems such as heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, etc. The same for smoking, it can lead to cancer, respiratory problems, rapid aging, etc. The main difference as far as an outsider goes is that when someone stuffs 6 big mac's down their throat it doesn't effect me unless they step on my foot on the way out of McDonald's. The smoker however, spreads his 'poison' throughout the air and it effects everyone around them. Whoever is in the same room, car, elevator or any enclosed place has no choice but to inhale the smoke as well.

We can't ask a person to not eat another hamburger, but we can ask someone to stop blowing smoke in our space. As far as dying faster, no one can predict that, none of us know the number of our days.

Because being fat could be a medical condition. Often times they have a genetic condition that makes it difficult to control weight loss, not to mention that it's not just a matter of putting out a cigarette but changing eating habits and exercise patterns. And it's not okay to tell random smokers that they are killing themselves. That is rude, so it would also be rude to tell random fat people that they are killing themselves.

I agree! Smokers have been persecuted for far too long. The problem is only that at some point some politician did not get his kickback from the tobacco companies and so started this "anti-smoking" campaign to try to put them out of business. Also, you can thank Mrs. Hilary Clinton, who took all the ash trays out of the White House.

it is not ok to tell people they are killing themselves by smoking. most of us that do smoke know it's not good for us, but making a hog of your self is just as bad. high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, etc. so they have no room to talk.
