When my son is screaming, or sick, or just in a bad mood, if I put on some old school r&b music or Beyonce, it quiets him down

This is going to sound really strange but when my niece was first born the only thing that she slept to was Eminem, any song of his was fine but if you tried any other artist she would wake up. This still works to get her calmed down. She is now 2. Here lately she has also taken to Akon a lot too.
Over the past two weeks the Sound of Music has become her favorite movie and we watch this all the time too.

After reassuring him that Dad will be back a little later and that you are there to play with him until dad gets back, you can try the following.... Have you tried distracting him with books and toys? Put on a Children DVD that he may enjoy watching. How about Candy! Tell him if he wants a piece of candy he has to stop crying. Give him the candy while setting him in front of a toy or the TV so he has a second distraction, when the candy is gone! No candy, check the freezer for Popsicles. Good luck!

Music quiets my son down also. I put on classical music for him at nap time and bed time. But he will listen to pretty much anything!

As far as him throwing a tantrum...well all I do is get down on his level (face to face) & tell him to calm down. If that doesn't work I get his attention on something else, like a movie or book...He also has a "woobie" (small blanket) he likes to cuddle with.

Same here. Any kind of music will get my son to stop crying. If I sing to him, put on slow R&B, or soft rock that works the best.

Haha, thats cute. I usually ignore them and wait for them to calm down enough to speak to me. With my 3yr old, the movie Finding Nemo makes him calm and eventually fall asleep. He'll sit on the couch with his pillow and i'll pop the movie in. He's probably seen it 1,000 times but never gets sick of it.

I don't know how old your son is, but my grand-daughter loves country music and football games. And I rock her and she goes right out. And she loves turkey/chicken wings and will fall asleep with those. (Yes, I make sure she doesn't eat the bones.)

'the look' usually does it... or I just ignore her and walk away... I don't respond to that behavior.. it helps alot. The calmer you are, the more mad they get.. but the esculation comes down quickly

My 2 yo has a blanket he loves. It soothes him when he's cranky.
