Every creditor is different. I have seen credit cards that bill 5 days after your last payment giving 25 days to pay. I've seen Cable TV companys bill and give less than 8 days to pay.
Most telephone companys complete billing cycles over 3 day periods (about 10 cycles a month), So, 1/10 of their bills are due at one time. (it is impossible to prepare and bulk mail all bills on one day). Most telephone companies are willing to adjust your billing date on request.
Each company is different and if your billing cycle is unacceptable, talk to them about it. Some are willing to work with you to adjust it. Others, like Cox cable told me, "too bad, pay it or we will cut you off". This is why I don't have Cox Cable and I pay a satellite bill that gives me 15 day notice between the bill date and the due date.
For even more notice, see if you can sign up for electronic billing, and you can get your bill online or via email, many days before mail delivers it, and you don't have to worry about lost or stolen postal mail.

You should already have it. If you haven't already, go to their website and create a username and password and check it.
