Very common. It prevents the teeth from moving back to a pre orthodontics state. I had retainers too.

I had braces and then a retainer for a year then they said my teeth were fine and i didnt need to wear the retainer at night at all...then my teeth moved back and i need to get another retainer or maybe even braces again! So yes i would recommend you wear it the rest of your life at night! And no retainers dont hurt! There a little uncomfortable the first few days, but then you get used to it!

Most people have a retainer after their braces are taken off. It prevents your teeth from moving back and keeps them in their nice new straight place. You may have to wear the retainer all the time for a while, then only need to wear it at night. Right at first it will feel funny in your mouth, but soon you won't notice it at all.
It will be worth it, you will have a beautiful smile!

I had braces for two years and it is customary for your Otho to give you retainers. This so the work the brace wont go to waste. When you go back ask the if your insurance can cover the invisible retainer instead of the ones with the metal bar. it not that bad.As the months pass the Otho will say just put them on at night

Its very common. orthodontists fit you for a retainer so you teeth wont move back to where they were. If you didnt get a retainer all those years of braces would be worthless.

It is commen because as soon as you get the braces off you will have to wear a retainer. The retainer will keep your teeth aligned. Make sure to wear it though! If not your teeth will shift, so be careful!

yep its normal, my sister has a permanent retainer glued to the back of her teeth, it just stops your teeth moving back to the old position
