Tamoguna should be first observed, carefully. The three Gunas go on repeating itself endlessely. When Tamoguna, the Guna of lethargy where you feel doing nothing and is bored for all things in life, is recognised, the very recognition will dissolve it. One method is that become disinterested in what interests you and get interested in what disnterests you.Next become active, replace Tamoguna by Rajo Guna. Start doing very simple excercises. Movement of hand and Legs. Start doing crossword puzzles. If free join the household and start cutting vegetables, and help in cooking, washing clothes and utensils. The when a firm grip is obtained, replace Rajo Guna with Sathva Guna, meaningly bring peace and harmony. Start uttering God's name continiously and later observe your own mind and try to dissolve it. of course less said more better. For a beginer this is enough.

Bhagwat gita Chaptr 4 Verse 13 says - (Excerpts)
If not everyone worships Lord Krishna and so many more are worshipers of other religions and denominations then why is this unbalance so prevalent in society. This verse refers to the four orders of Vedic culture exclusively being the brahmins or priestly class, the ksatriyas or the royal and warrior class, the vaisyas or farming and trading class and the sudra or the servant classs. These were created according to the natural qualities of their prenatal disposition and classified accordingly to their corresponding birth. The Brahmins have the prenatal quality of sattva or goodness, the ksatriyas have the prenatal quality of rajas or passion being dominant and sattva being subordinate, the vaisyas have the prenatal quality of tama guna or ignorance with rajas being subordinate and the sudras have the prenatal quality of ignorance. Any other classification outside of these four cannot be claimed to be originated by Lord Krishna. Although Lord Krishna is the originator of these four orders He is not to be held accountable to the unbalance in society as this is due to the prenatal disposition of all beings based on their activities and subsequent reactions each life.
I think this explains about tama guna ie. ignorance-

When sattva predominates, the light of wisdom shines through every gate of the body. When rajas predominates, a person runs about pursuing selfish and greedy ends, driven by restlessness and desire. When tamas is dominant a person lives in darkness – slothful, confused, and easily infatuated. The fruit of good deeds is pure and sattvic. The fruit of rajas is suffering. The fruit of tamas is ignorance and insensitivity
Sattva predominates when rajas and tamas are transformed. Rajas prevails when sattva is weak and tamas overcome. Tamas prevails when rajas and sattva are dormant.”
The wisdom is to know that it is Gunas alone which are responsible for actions and the soul, the real self, the owner, is untainted, unaffected and is not the agent or the doer.
The moment this realization comes that he, the soul is not the doer of actions, the results of actions don't affect or touch him, he readily enters or merges into the Lord, the Supreme Over Soul.
Having thus steadied oneself in the knowledge that he is untainted by the gunas and the actions born of gunas, one rises above all the three gunas and having thus risen, lifts and frees himself from birth, death, decay and pain thus attaining immortality and becomes one with the Lord.

Every man is having 3 qualities in varying proportions.
1. Pious, 2. General of the world, 3. Impious.
Pious which you call 'sattvik', is like doing good deeds only. A pious man can not do a bad or evil deed in normal circumustances.
What we are doing presently is like general as per the systems prevailing in this world, and norms of the society. This we call 'rajasik'.
When we do impulsively bad deeds we come in the impious category, which we call 'taamah'.
But all these 3 categorised people are having some proportionate tinge of the other 2 also, though the quality in abundance is of the category that he belongs to at a given point of time.
So having known the state that you are in, you need to inculcate the better qualities in you, knowing yourself that you are not bereft of it totally, and you already have a small presence of it in you.
Having said that, I will add that a pious category man should also be careful as he can easily condescend to the not desired ' taamah'.
Actual task is to come out of all the 3, since having even the best among them ie pious, can not assure, that you can be like that. for eternity You are bound to fall lower some time.

Tamo Guna is mode of ignorance, mode of laziness or mode of living a life of useless vegetable.
Do things of ur interest without getting in clutches of Laziness. Without doing anything, nothing can be perfected or learnt better. Ofcourse we may encounter mistakes but that how we learn. So dont lose heart keep moving no matter what. Learn to be wise from the past foolishness and do not repeat them. This is for all.
Do them with love and out of happiness not for happiness.

There is an opportunity for one in the modes of ignorance and passion to be elevated to the mode of goodness, and that system is called Krishna consciousness. But one who does not take advantage of this opportunity will certainly continue in the lower modes.

First avoid consuming Thamasic foods like onions, garlic and hot spicy foods, and foods prepared 6 hrs before, yes, food cause our thoughts and passions. One who consume more is bound to sleep and will become inactive. Second take sathwic foods, sathwic recreations. Adopt middle path in life. do not go to extremes. Knowledge is inside each one of us but it is hidden by the ignorance. Hence by removing the ignorance you can access knowledge.

One must face the role of cravings and lusts in one's life as a first step. Then one must be willing to become detached from these cravings. We must be willing to deal withour lack of spiritual knowledge, priorities, discipline and commitment
