You can, but look at the majority of people look for love online.

They are...
1) Needy--they want to have love or someone to love them.
2) Usually insecure
3) Emotionally dependent
4) Desperate

While a "good" and healthy relationship CAN occur online, it's far fewer than the unhealthy and dependent relationships found online.

I met this girl online once. We're both fans of this 80s/90s kids show called Knightmare, and when I joined Myspace there was a group dedicated to it.

I signed up and got chatting to a lovely girl. I asked her out soon afterwards and a few weeks later we got engaged.

That was a year and a half ago and we're very much in love.

it is possible you need to open your mind to possibilities ---- there are sites that allow you to chat without making a payment --- the sites that i have found most useful are the so called adult sites --- forget the advertising they are mostly a bunch of people trying to find companionship and long term relations --- you need to get rid of the dross is all --- i have dated a few ladies and i have found the love of my life and im WAY older than most people here --- have fun
