I recently made the reluctant but inevitable switch from Zelnorm to Amitiza and feel as though I am experiencing a negative side effect: unwanted weight gain with no change in my caloric intake.

I have consistently measured my daily caloric intake for going on two years and have not experienced any changes that didn't routinely balance out until now. I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this problem...

I have gained a good five pounds. I am young, muscular, and excercise frequently. Anyone have an explanation?

if you have not made any other changes then this switch may be the reason, 5 lbs in itself is not bad though as long as it does not progress further. talk to your doctor about other possible medicines, good luck

It's not the best thing to do, but the crash diet really ***** up your metabolism. If you don't eat for a week, then go back to eating normally (or better yet, eating more) you'll put on the weight again really quickly and then some. Although if you're already too skinny you probably shouldn't do this.
