more specifically, what is a typical day like and is it a worthwhile rate in the navy.

The MAA rating is not exactly an MP. Onboard ship you will be in charge of all personnel who are on restriction and in charge of those on extra duty and run the piss tests. And depending on the type of ship you will be in charge of the security forces. On shore duty they are usually base police.

MA - Master at Arms - they are the Navy's version of Military Police.

I saw MOST MA's as professional and polite... a few who let their head's swell when assigned to base-police duty.

I was an AW my first 10 years... and would pick that rate over almost any. When I was commissioned, I almost got stuck with duty over-seeing the MA's at NASNI, but volunteered to go to sea to avoid it !!
