Like the others said, without requesting deletion upon payment makes it difficult. The collector no longer has any incentive to remove it and could care less if it trashes your reports.
Like OC1999 said, look over your credit reports for any inaccuracies and dispute those. If you are lucky they may not verify it so the CRA's would then have to delete it.
The negative account cannot report for longer than it normally would have if you had not paid it. It "cannot" legally be re-age to run for a longer period simply because it was paid.
You might click on my profile and do some reading in the links I have listed. Learn what constitues a violation in reporting.

Collection Agencies are under no obligation to remove valid items. So ideally you should negociate to remove the items before you pay. As once you pay they really have no motive to do that for you. There is nothing wrong with you requesting that they remove the items, but they probably will not. You should also request that they send you a letter showing that you did pay it off, so if this ever comes back in a few years you have proof that it was paid off.
However, even though they may not remove the item they must report a correct status and balance. So they should have a 0 balance and show as paid/settled in full. If it is anything else you can dispute that with the Credit Reporting Agencies to have it corrected.
If the item remains it will remain on there for 7 years so in your case that will be the last payment you made to pay it off. But if you maintain a good credit history from here on these items will have less and less effect on your score as time goes on.

There's no way to remove legit items from your credit. You will just have to wait out the balance of the 7 year reporting period. Paying off a negative does not improve your score or get the item removed. Even if you had a pay for delete agreement with the collection agency, the collection agency would only be able to remove what they reported. The original creditor's charge off would remain. It is just about impossible to get original creditors to remove legitimate charged off accounts. At this point, the best thing you can do is to use that secured card and pay the balance in full every month. You will need at least 24 months of consistent, on time payment history to see improvement in your score. The more on time history, the better your score.

Once you have paid off the debts, the collection agencies are supposed to report that information to the 3 major credit bureaus. It probably takes a little time to get it reported. If they are not taking the information off your report, or reporting that it is paid, I would call the collection agency and ask how long it takes. Then, I would keep close track and if they do not get it done, I would call them again. You may have to go higher up, talk to supervisors, etc. but they are required to report that information.
