My landlord doesn't know I have three cats, and they are constantly trying to go in the windows (which overlook his work). I try training them not to go in the windows, but they don't mind the squirt bottle and jump back up no matter how many times I remove them. I don't want them to be discovered while I am out at work. I'm beginnning to think that locking them up may be my only option, besides getting rid of them. I really don't want to get rid of them. And yes, I know I shouldn't have three if I am not allowed but I found the two kittens as strays and got kind of attached. Also, when I adopted them I was still with my boyfriend, and between us we were home often enough that this wouldn't be an issue. However, he recently moved out and so I am in a pickle here.

Just to clarify, pets ARE allowed in my apartment. My landlord just hates cats. I do have permission to have a cat, but technically I don't have permission to have three cats.

no, its not an issue although if I was in that position then I would try to make a space that is just for them: for example, my cat has a basket full of toys, and a kitty tower in the corner of my room....when he can't be out in the rest of the house-like when we have dinner guests and pets aren't allowed-he doesn't complain because everything he needs to stay entertained is right there---It's kinda like letting him have his own bedroom by putting down a rug in the corner and scattering some toys (cheaper way) or by giving him a kitty tower with a but load of toys (alittle pricer)
I assume I don't have to tell you to give them assess to food and a litter box because that's just common sense -which you sound like you have common sense
good luck
ps, if you have a tv in your room you can turn on this special DVD's and it's like looking out a window for the cats
buy them on ebay for cheap, called cat sitter DVD's which are basically movies of other cats, mice, bugs, birds and other fun things that cats love to watch and would otherwise see if looking out the window :)

I also have three cats and they too love looking out the windows. Can you put some curtains in the windows or horizontal blinds or something that can hide the cats? How about moving to a different place that allows pets? If those are not good options, then you may have to lock them in your bedroom when you go to work along with their food, water and litter box. They will probably go to sleep in your bed all day anyway. If there is a bathroom inside the master then that would be even better because they will have more room to move around. I’m sure you’ll figure something out.

It's not mean...I lock my dogs in the playroom when I am leaving the house...as long as your cats have food, fresh water and a clean litter box then they should be fine...also just so they don't get bored I would give them a scrathing post, some toys. Cats have this thing about being up high...maybe get them one of those cat condos with the different levels....or just ask your landlord to reconsider, especially if you keep the place clean and your cats aren't tearing things up.

I agree, as long as you leave them food, water and a litter box, your good to go. Its a bedroom, not a closet, so that's good.
Yeah, I would be looking into another apartment that allowed pets.
If your landlord catches you with the cats just say you are watching them for a friend.
Good luck !

Idon't think it's an issue as long as they have access to fresh food, water and litter boxes. My cats just sit in one spot all day anyway! They don't need much room to run around and play, especially if they are kittens. Most likely they will just sleep while you are gone. Just cat-proof the room to make sure they can't get into trouble.

As long as they have food water and a litter box they will be fine. You might also try covering the windows. A clear plastic or a blanket with puch pins all the way around might keep them out if you just hate to lock them up.

This should be fine. Chances are that they sleep most of the time when you are away anyway.
However, you are only putting a patch on a more serious issue. It's time to start looking for a new apartment that takes pets.

She can look outside if she wants, and she will spend most of the time sleeping anyway. And after she is let out of the room, you play with her. Seems like a win, since otherwise, she might get out the open door, and you indicated that is not something you want to happen.

No, it's not cruel at all to do that to your cats - as long as they have access to food, water, and a litter box, your cats will be fine.

Find yourself another apartment. It's mean not to let them enjoy sitting in the windows.
