Canned foods, like peas and corn are not a problem at all. Even the salt isn't an issue if you don't normally eat processed foods and fast food.
When they talk about processed foods, they are talking about Freeze Dried Scalloped potatoes and Hamburger Helper and canned spaghetti. Nothing wrong with these, but when you aren't getting enough unprocessed stuff like fresh vegetables and fruit, your system doesn't work as well and will fail earlier than if you did. The carbs are turned into sugar much faster causing excessive insulin use. Eventually, your system is always doing this which results in diabetes.
So, you don't have to dump the processed foods, but they shouldn't be the mainstay of your diet.

They are usually loaded with sodium and many unnecessarily preservatives and artificial colors. Sodium causes high blood pressure. Processed foods are awful as far as cholesterol goes. Artificial flavorings and dyes can wreak all sorts of havoc. I have Lupus and I am very careful about what I eat. No processed food ever. FD &C #5, 6, 10 are not only unecessary but can bring on flares for someone like myself - which is just one example.

They tend to be loaded with salt. Some salt is OK but it adds up fast with processed food and canned food. Too much is tough on your kidneys and it drives up your blood pressure. Plus processed food often has chemicals and sugar added, and a lot of the nutritious stuff your body needs taken out.

No, no, no! STOOOOOOOP!
Canned foods have been proven to cause cancer especially if you eat a lot of it. Although cooking fresh foods take longer to prepare, it's healthier for you and you gain more nutrients from it being fresh than the canned food that may have been sitting around for a year.

read the labels...if you can't pronounce the ingredients on the label, (if the name won't come OUT of your mouth) should the substance go IN your mouth?
many foods (unfortunately not as many as have chemicals added) have no added substances ... canned vegetables, for example -- technically, these are "processed foods" although they are minimally processed...likewise frozen vegetables and other frozen foods...think about it...unless you buy a live chicken and slaughter and pluck and dis-assemble it yourself, you must buy a "processed" chicken, even though it is only dispatched and disassembled into pieces more suitable for the end-user
