There is aperson who sits with me at lunch, thinks he is my friend, and follows me everywhere. He is 11, and he weighs 55 pounds, you can see his bones sticking out, he doesn't eat much at lunch, and he says he excersises about the average amount. He has a good family situation, and seems happy.

However, I think he might have an eating disorder. Please tell me if you think he does have an eating disorder, and if he does, what I should do about it. (Tell a teacher/parents/social worker, ask him about it, etc.)

Thank you very much!!!

He may just be a picky eater, as many kids are at that age, or it may just be his body type.
When kids are growing and developing it is hard for their bodies to keep up because they use their store of energy for growth and their activity.

Why don't you start by asking him what he had for dinner, what he likes for snacks, etc. and see where it goes?

i really can't tell if your classmate has an eating disorder because you haven't given too much information, but there are many symptoms or anorexia and bulimia aside from just not eating much and being thin. go to www.sfwed.com, which is undoubtedly one of the best eating disorder websites out there.

if you do think that he has a problem, i would tell a teacher. If you know his parents and feel comfortable with them, tell them. there is nothing wrong with expressing a concern

When I was 11 I was also verrrrrrry skinny. I just had a super fast metabolism. No eating disorder at all.
here's what I suggest. Watch him eat. observe his eating over the course of the next few days. then you can decide if he has a eating disorder. I doubt that he does.

It could also be a low appetite or a high metabolism or another physical symptom. Rarely do males have eating disorders. Most of them who do are wrestlers or some other sports that focus on weight
