Interviewed to sit for a special needs child, the Mom seemed fine at the four hour interview and I gave her my references. Supposte to sit tomorrow. This morning the Mom called and now wants a copy of my drivers license and more references and a copy of a resume. I think this is asking way to much for only making five dollars a hour at her home. I am relieving the current sitter. Not sure how to tell the Mom her requirements do NOT match the pay scale and no longer interested in sitting? God knowes she would find other things to be pickey about. Your sugesstions are greatly appreciated. What is the going rate for caring for a special needs child? Thank you!

personally, i think she is going too far also. I know that my eight year old goes to a sitter and there i pay $5.00/hr. but my daughter is 8 years old and not a special needs child. I guess depending on how much "work" is actually involved.. such as age of child, does the child need help with the toilet or feeding, stuff like that i would figure at least $6.00/ hr just because there is more involved. If you truly are no longer interested, just politely say to the mother, " I feel that I might be in over my head when it comes to providing adequate care for your special needs child. To ensure the safety and skill requirements that your child needs, maybe you should find someone with a little more hands-on knowledge." This way you don't make it come across like the mother is a total wacko for asking you for your drivers license and more and more requirements.... it comes across as you looking out for the best interest of her child. - GOOD LUCK!

In this day and age you can never be too careful about who is watching your children. If you have nothing to hide then you don't mind the checking to allieviate the mother's worry. Perhaps you do not have your own children and never experienced the all consuming worry about the concern for your child. If you don't even know the pay rate I wouldn't think you have been doing this for very long and that would bring about suspect as well. You failed to mention if you have any experience in this field.

trust me if you have kids you'll understand her reasoning! especially a special needs child. too many nannys and babysitters have gone to prison for abuse and neglect you never know who you can trust with a defenseless child. so put your self in her shoes. so what if its 5 dollars or a million dollars if you don't want the job then don't take it im sure its hard on her pockets to have to take the child to doctors and have to hire someone to take care of him. not everyone is rich!

Well, aren't you an entitled one. She is concerned about her child and takes leaving him seriously. God forbid that you prove you have a good driving record, good work record, and references.

i don't think the mom is asking for to much because when it comes to children you want the person that is caring for the children to treat them as you would i think she just want to make sure she is hiring the right person for the job
