Has anyone else had cramps due to MS? What meds work? My calves and shin muscles are affected. Thank you in advance for your anticipated reply!

I do understand what you're going through, as I have Fibromyalgia and Parkinson's disease. what works best for me is deep tissue massage therapy. No medication equals the relief I get after one of these sessions. I highly recommend you find a qualified deep tissue massage therapist and give it a try. I think you will be surprised at how good you feel, even though it's torture when you're having the treatment.

If it's possible for you to get into a bathtub I would recommend a hot bath with 2c. of that Epsom salts to relieve the pain. If you can't do a bath, place a heating pad on the area of the cramp for twenty minutes at a time. After words massage an analgesic cream into the area.

Best wishes,

I also have MS and occasionally have cramps. Sometimes just standing up and putting weight on my legs helps. There are a couple of good prescriptions that help but too much can make your legs weaker. There is even one treatment that is inserted into your back and works directly. Ask your neurologist. Also one of my MS friends found relief by sticking his legs into buckets of ice water (sounds odd but if it works you can try it.)

my husband does not have ms but suffers from debilitating leg cramps. staying hydrated will help as well as increasing your potasium intake. quinine is a good way to help keep them at a minimum. you can get that in tonic water. it's a little bitter but it does help. i don't know that these things will work for you with the ms but it's worth a shot.

Ask your doctor for a muscle relaxer-especially for at night. Or requip if you have busy legs at night.
