in general yes they do have a harder time. by eliminating red meats from the diet a high source of calories is removed from the diet and for many a good percentage of the total fat intake. for men optimum test production is seen at around a fat intake of 30% while women it is 20%. recent medical study has also shown that women actually need more saturated fats in the diet then males for maximum test production.

at the professional bodybuilding level I think I cant count maybe a handful of vegetarians in the IFBB in the past 40+ years, both male and female.

your lifestyle chose should not keep you from building muscles. however you do need to have an adequate intake of proteins from soy, Lima's, nuts and leugens for your body to maintain muscle mass. If you don't feel you are getting enough protein buy a soy protein shake to help supplement... how much protein should you be getting. ~.8g per kg of body weight or ~ 1/2 your weight in lbs if you weigh 100lb you should be intaking at least 48g of protein per day. hope this helps

Not really. To get really huge muscles you have to juice up with steroids and growth hormones. don't think for a minute you can look like one of those 300lb bodybuilders by just eating raw steak.
