Smoking does not relieve stress. The only thing smoking does is relieve nicotine withdrawal. So people only THINK it relieves stress. It actually causes the stress it supposedly relieves. Read "The Easy Way to Quit" by Allen Carr. It's very informative.
If you have not been smoking long, quit. You will be so glad you did. It's a nasty addiction.
Best wishes to you.

Stop smoking, that is the dumbest way to relieve stress. As a matter of fact the nicotine actually releases stress hormones in your body, thus your heart rate and blood pressure rise during and after smoking. Try chamomile tea instead.

I smoke, it is your business on weither you smoke or not. Inhaleing / exhaleing is about it. If you have gone without this long you may be better off.
People will be up in your face because of smoking.
It would not surprise me any if the GOVERNMENT does start jailing smokers, or putting us in cages.
Drinkers are fine. They can get drunk go out kill people, spend a little time in jail, and go do it again. Government says nothing about it. Tells ya just how many DRUNKS help run the country.

Smoking relieves stress through putting nicotine in your blood stream, which you get addicted to. Thus, when you get stressed out, you can give yourself a hit of nicotine and relieve the mild withdrawal syndromes that you were experiencing before.

It also gives you a nice little thing to do with your hands, and the familiarity of it brings stress relief.

However, this is not a good reason to smoke.

A good alternative to smoking which also gives you a chemical in your system and a little ceremony to go through is to make a cup of hot tea. It gives you caffeine, is good for you, and gives you something to do with your hands.

Try it!

If you're smart, you'll stop smoking right now. Walking relieves stress, take a brisk thirty minute walk every day. Smoking will lead to serious pulmonary issues, cancer, it's only going to lead to worse kinds of stress in the long run. Walking will lead to better health.

You can't just start smoking to relieve stress. It is an addiction, once you are addicted feeding the addiction is what relieves stress. If you do not like smoking, I would suggest quiting now, before you start liking it.

the only reason smoking relieves stress is because if your addicted your putting extra stress on your body by not smoking. You NEED a cigarette (i know I've been a smoker for way to long)

you heard wrong. Smoking does nothing but stress out your body more. Your putting crap into your body. You want to live a long time, healthy life style. Try to relax natural and do some Ti Chi, Yoga, even jog.

The relief actually comes from deep inhalation of air. You can get the same effect (better, since it wont ruin your lungs and possibly your life) by just breathing in very deeply and holding it for a few seconds before exhaling. Try it.
