Of course a Dane is going ot cost more then a Lab since they are bigger..as far as life span..a wellbred Danes average life span is the same as a Labs..10 years. Wellbred and well cared for either breed is very capable of living a long healthy life into theri teens. Danes are no more prone to health issues then Labs are..Labs are prone to hip/elbow dysplasia, thyroid disease, eye problems and seizures..Danes are prone to hip dysplasia, heart problems, wobblers and bloat. In either breed if you buy from a responsible breeder the risk of genetic issues is greatly reduced.

If you feed a good quality food you won't feed half as much. Danes should NEVER have a high protein food. They need a food with protein level of 24% or less.

My Danes get 4 cups of dry food daily..2 cups in the am, 2 cups in the pm. My Dane pup also gets 1 can of wet food. I feed Canidae All Life Stages canned and dry. My Danes are in great shape, excellant weight, energy, great coats, great muscle tone...my pup is 10 months old and 32" and 132.9 #. He is also a show dog.

Heartguard costs more then it does for Labs since Danes weigh more, Frontline plus costs more too for same reason.

It costs me @ $100- $125 per month to feed 2 Danes and a German Shorthair. For Frontline it is @ $100 for 6 months worth for 1 Dane and Hearguard is @ $75-$80 for 8 months worth for 1 Dane

For my sons 2 Labs it costs him @ $65 for food..$199 for 6 months worth of Frontline for 2 Labs and $95 - $100 for 8 months worth of Heartguard for 2 Labs.

I feed Canidae my son feeds Chicken Soup Senior Adult.

I highly recommend that anyone interested in Danes read the book The Great Dane Model of Nobility by Jill Swedlow. This is a wonderfully written book with a wealth of honest, correct info written by a very experienced Dane person. ( many Dane books contain faulty info especially in regards to nutrition & feeding)

Great Dane Puppy Care

Is it expensive to care for children?

Same answer. Great Danes eat...a lot. And, the breed as a whole is extremely prone to bloat(which is very expensive to treat). Also, Danes have a very short life span compared to other dog breeds. I would find the Great Dane club and learn more about the breed before buying one.

Depends if you feed a low quality food then it will be more expensive, as they will eat more. if you feed a good high quality food then they wont need to eat as much. Also greatdanes have many medical problems in their short lvies (6-8 years) and you need to REALLY do reaserch before finding one on good breeders. Dont buy from some back yard breeder. Make sure both parents, grandparents and so forth all have their OFA and CERF tests done, make sure no medical problems came up in the past family members ect. make sure this person understands the breed and show them too.

Your question baffles me.. It says 'how much cost to keep alive and such'.. It is my opinion that you should strive to do more then make a dog just 'live'. If you can not afford big food bills with higher end quality kibble and can not afford to pay big vet bills, then get a hampster. Danes are really not that much more to care for then some other breeds but medicines and vet care is much more pricey. The bigger the animal, the more meds it would need if something were to happen that requires vet care etc. They don't eat much more then large breed dogs as adults but do come with a set of possible health issues such as Bloat which is an emergency and can cost you $2500.00 to save the dogs life.
Do some breed research other then asking about Danes on Y Questions as many people here that are answering you have no experience with the breed. Visit Danes Online forums and read as much as you can BEFORE you decide to bring a Dane into your life.

That all depends on the quality of food you want.
I feed RAW, so I would expect to spend about $100 a month.
100 lb dog x 2-3% for pounds to feed per day = 3 lbs
I try not to spend more that $1 per pound, but it varies = $3 per day
Right about $100 and worth every penny!
