a cop, there's a chance he's decent and not one of the schmucks that hang out where they can't be found 'til the end of their shift
dr- either too busy if he's good or too snotty if he THINKS he's goo
guitar player= no night-dates and no income
college student- why? he's probably got no experience in life and therefore COMPLETELY boring, who cares what "potential" he might have....
basketball player- pro, always on the road--amateur, no income and, if he's any good, only one goal in life
businessman- 2nd choice. LOTS of room for personality variances. could be a dedicated decent guy, could be a sheister

1) a cop - only if he wasn't the macho, wife beater cop type
2) a doctor - if he wasn't gay & if he was willing to make time for a personal life
3) a guitar player in a band - no thanks, too many groupies to compete with
4) a college student - uh, too young - unless he was getting his PhD
5) a basketball player - pass, too many crazy cheerleaders and adoring fans to compete with.
6) a businessman - what business? Traveling salesman? No thanks, too many hookers to compete with

age 20 (close enoff) i would pick a cop, it shows me he is tough, can protect me, makes decent money, has time to be able to spend with me...
a doctor not enoff time, a guitar player not enoff money makes me feel like hes a dreamer, college student still needs time to party not ready for a relationship, basketball player eh i dont like the sport and businessman to up tight.

Whichever one had the best sense of humor and who I could have fun with.
But considering the list, I'd go with cop. Interesting stories for him to tell me and easy access to handcuffs! I'm 25.
