I believe it is because it can go into the waterways if you live near one. That's why they have campaigns now to scoop the poop. I know it's your backyard and you can do anything you want to it, but it's healthier for you and your children, plus when you cut the grass in the backyard you won't have to step on some poop. You don't want dog poop for soil do you?

yes and no. the biggest problem with dog poop is if it finds its way to a river or lake the bacteria can grow in the water and cause cholera or dysentery if the contaminated water comes in contact with open wounds or is digested. The second problem is that as the bacteria grows in the water, they will reduce the oxygen that is available for fish and im sure your thinking well just that little bit of poo cant cause that much harm but think abut every dogs poo in the river or lake ita adds up. Many fish cant survive in streams that have reduced oxygen levels. large unnatural numbers of any animal in a small area can cause a problem- not just dogs. If only a handful of dogs were leaving their poop behind we wouldnt have any problem. The remains could easily be absorbed into the soil. but should you let your dog poop in a vegetable garden or area soon to be a vegetable garden thats not a good idea becuase the bacteria can leech onto or into the vegetable and no matter if you wash it or not the bacteria on the inside wont die and you could get really sick. my suggestion is to buy biodegradable poop bags to collect your dogs poop into because walmart bags or other plastic bags will get rid of the poop but the walmart bag itself takes about 100 years to dicinegrate. so just be careful

its is good
but it is better if you covered it with some leaves or sand ,it will then stop smelling ,
start decomposing and become part of the soil much more quickly adding to the quality of your top soil,

or throw it around the plants and cover with a bit of soil.poop is good fertilizer

if you have a dog who creates a lot of poop as well as a lot of kitchen waste start a compost heap.

a general note on compost

bones,treetrunks,cardboard,egg... clothes(if they are organic),poop,leaves,kitchen waste,foodscraps,newspaper,
your mother inlaw and kitty litter
and even the dead cat

All can be put on the compost heap

as long as you seal it with a covering of leaves .or put a piece of plastic on top ,
keep it moist and in the shade ,it will then get hot enough to kill all parasites

the worms will devellop, and take care of everything ,the moisture helps decomposition

the plastic keeps in the moisture and protects the worms from predators .like chickens ,birds armadillos, and even dogs .i have seen going in to eat my worm culture

you could add a bit of lime now and again
to make the process more potent

HOW
make the compost in a shallow hole ,so that it retains more humidity,
about 2 square meters is good ,and have it under a tree or put a little roof over i t,which does not have to be water proof ,so a palm thatch is enough,

and makesure the garden sprinkler gets there or spray some water on it ,at least once a week, dont have it water logged or the worms will drown or leave

Organic waste is responsible for 70% of contamination in Land fills if it goes out with the trash ,so please do not do this

RECYCLING
Cardboard is also acceptable for recycling

so is glass if you classify it in colors, and
aluminium cans

Where is the poop comming from? Animals I hope. They make things that act just like a septic tank, that you install into the ground. It breaks up the poop just like a septic tank does. You just open the lid(its flush with the ground) and put the poop in. If your interested, call your local vet. and get the information from them. Bye

If you mean animal waste (from dogs, cats and birds) then the answer is no, as long as it's not excessive amounts and humans are not coming into contact with it regularly.

Animal waste in small amounts and scattered throughout will be absorbed into the ground in the natural cycles and not cause a problem.

Believe it or not, it actually is. The township notices that I get in the mail state that when it rains and runs off in to the sewers that it can actually cause contaminated drinking water.
Here is what earth911 has to say: "Pet waste contains harmful bacteria and organisms that can spread disease. Pick up pet waste, seal it in a plastic bag, and dispose of it in trash cans. Don't hose waste into storm drains. Help keep your neighborhood and your pet healthy and clean. "

I hope this helps you!

Certainly not! It is biodegradable and is great fertilizer for your yard. It is, however, a pain when trying to mow if it is still, shall we say, fresh. That is why our kids do Poop Patrol before the grass gets mowed!

No. Poop is a natural thing, the only bad effect is that it stinks. It is also a good fertilizer for your yard.

When I lived in Germany, my friends Mother-in-law use to make them save their poop to fertilize her garden.. Needless to say I never ate anything from their garden, but they did have some beautiful fruits and vegies and she won many awards with her flowers. So I guess it works great.

I've heard that animal feces has some gnarly chemicals in it, but it should not be harmful to the environment, and it will make your grass look great!
