Not a Mormon.

Reason - after much study - just about Joseph Smith alone - the thought of having anything to do with a group that he started - shall we say, not very wise.

Look at his arrest history.

Look at the changes that he made to his story - using the books that he wrote even - that are not so easy to find any more (but they are still out there).

Have you looked into what they actually have written? The teachings of the Mormon church go far and beyond any point that can be remotely proven.

Lived in Missouri as a child. Part of the history lesson that we had was based on that state's history. When a child can actually GO to the places that one is being taught about and check things out for them self to see if it is indeed 'true' - and find out that it is - - talking about things like Smith being in a shoot out because he broke out of jail - that he sold moonshine - that he was brought up on countless charges in that state alone.

The fact that Joseph Smith was into fortune telling and that the practice that he used to do such is the exact same thing that he used when he started the group that would be later known as Mormon.

There is also the fact that not that long ago, a black person wasn't even considered to ever even be able to ever have part in their group! Another of their changes.

I remember talking to some of the kids that were door knocking in my area. Invited them in and even listened to them. When I asked questions - they answered. What they were not ready for was me pulling out copies of books that their group had published that said exactly opposite of what they were taking door to door. One of them came back later and I gave him the book. He seemed really shaken that what he had been told by the group was not what was clearly written in a book by that same group from an earlier date. He thanked me. Even called a few times and I gave them more information. Eventually he went back home. Never found out what happened.

Just not the sort of group that I would want to be linked with in any way. I have met some very nice people that are within the group - but most have no real understanding of the history of their group except from the point that their group wants to present it.

Why I'm not a Mormon
By fireyhairedfairy

First off, I'm not a Mormon 'cause I'm and atheist. Furthermore, I'm also not a Mormon because I think that whole Joseph Smith thing is crazy. Although, I will say this; everyone keeps saying that the bible needs to become a trilogy and the Mormons did exactly that.
Thank you

I am not making assumptions! I was actually considering their religion before I found out what they believed in. I talked with the Missionaries, read their holy books, (paid especial attention to the D&Q) and discovered that Mormons pervert the Word of God to such an extreme level and that the "God" they believe in is not even really a god! He's nothing but a "glorified man"! That's NOT Christianity. And even if Mormons were the "true chruch" nothing could ever EVER make me worship a MAN! Either Joseph Smith was a Lunitic or he was visited by an "angel of light" which is the demon in disguise as an angel.

I am a Mormon because it is true. If people would just take the time to read the Book of Mormon and ask god for and answer would find it out for themselves. We belive in the Bible as the word of god also. The book of mormon doesn't add to or take away from the bible. it supports its teachings. We aren't a Cult we worship Jesus Christ just like all other christians. if you want to know more go to LDS.org and find out from the real source. Not some Catholic Priest who hates the church. Find out from the true source. GOD! I have prayed and know it is true. God bless all of you!

I was fortunate enough to grow up in a family where I was allowed to attend and learn about various churches. My mother was Mormon and my father was Methodist, but neither forced their religion on me. However, after investigating and being exposed to many different religions I chose to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints -aka Mormon. I am grateful for my membership in this church. I know that Jesus Christ is the son of God and that this is His Church on the earth today. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and I know that Gordon B. Hinckley, who leads the church today, is also a prophet of God. I learned this for myself through prayer and scripture study. I love the church and all that it stands for. Being a Mormon is awesome - it's a great way to live!

It's the most intelligent and spiritually empowering religion I ever studied and coming from a Jewish heritage I found the power of the true authority and of the temple ordinances restored in these final days. It's transcending and all that it claims to be.

Jews have record of a man named Lehi but that he later disappeared from Jewish records. The Book of Mormon is the continuing story of his family and what became of them when they were taken out of Jerusalem.

I am a Mormon because I believe that it is the most Biblical church. I believe that it is the restored church of Jesus Christ. I believe that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, like the Bible, and that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God and that Gordon B. Hinckley is a true prophet of God.

2 Nephi 25:26 And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.

1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Doctrine & Covenants 76:12 By the power of the Spirit our eyes were opened and our understandings were enlightened, so as to see and understand the things of God—
13 Even those things which were from the beginning before the world was, which were ordained of the Father, through his Only Begotten Son, who was in the bosom of the Father, even from the beginning;
14 Of whom we bear record; and the record which we bear is the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ, who is the Son, whom we saw and with whom we conversed in the heavenly vision...
19 And while we meditated upon these things, the Lord touched the eyes of our understandings and they were opened, and the glory of the Lord shone round about.
20 And we beheld the glory of the Son, on the right hand of the Father, and received of his fulness;
21 And saw the holy angels, and them who are sanctified before his throne, worshiping God, and the Lamb, who worship him forever and ever.
22 And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!
23 For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father—
