I don't know about everyone else but when I nap I am not completely asleep and am still aware (somewhat) of my surroundings, I think if your daughter is in a safe place a cat nap would be fine, if you can use one of those tall baby gates to keep her in some where, I think it all has to do with your judgment and whatever you are comfortable with. Accidents will happen even if you are awake

NEVER!!! You never know what she's doing while your asleep. Those are the stories where the five year old goes out the front door, gets in the car and drives to the stores, and the mother (who on the news is always in her jamies looking kinda cracked out) NEVER KNOWS HOW THIS COULD OF POSSIBLY HAPPENED!! If you are so tired you can't keep your eyes open, get a sitter, even just to play with them while you take a nap in the next room. It is worth it because it would be awful for something horrible to happen to your child because you fell asleep!

It depends how light you sleep, I have taken naps with my 4yr. son in the same room. I'm never completely sleep, because I'm still listening to him, what tv program is he watching, his comments, etc. Once, I was taking a nap and hear he was choking while eating grapes, so I react inmediately, I know 1st aid and could help him. I was probably lucky, but I have to say I think most moms can't really sleep when their children are present, I'm always aware, listening what's going on.
I know children that had worse accidents at home, while mom was awake, but busy cleaning or cooking. I believe it really depends on you.

Is it right? Probably not, but I do it. It depends on the kid. If your 5 year old is well behaved and knows her boundaries, then do it. I usually sleep with one ear open and my daughter has some emergency question, such as, Where are my barbie shoes, every 10 minutes or so. If you actually can get a GOOD nap, lucky you!! LOL

I honestly did not know if this was a real question when I first read it..... Oh my gosh... no way!!! they can get into anything. even if your 5 year old is mature or responsible for a 5 year old. what happens if this child decides she wants an apple and tries to cut it? or someone knocks and she opens the door? you may tell her a hundred times not to do that but she is 5 and will forget in a heart beat. anything could happen!! why would you take that chance
You may think you are just dozing off but you do not know when you will drift into a heavier sleep.
please do not do this. it is so dangerous!!!

i dont' know about other peoples kids but my 3 and a half year old is perfectly fine to sit and play with toys if i fall asleep on the couch, being 7 months prego that happens. i have never woken up to the house on fire or anything like that. also knowing she's up i can't ever fully fall asleep, and i always hear her, even when she's down the hall in the bathroom. its not like you have to leave the house to take a nap. i say its fine.

no, its really really not a good idea. even at 5 they can get into anything in about 2 seconds! I know of someone who says they just "doze off" and they dont really sleep but you never know when you are going to drift into a deeper sleep,
It is not ok, at all

i personally wouldn't, i would be worried she'd do something or there would be a fire and i didnt wake up til it was too late or she hurt herself upstairs and i was sleeping downstairs and didnt hear her cry or she knocked herself out and your asleep for 2 hours.
i dunno i'm probably totally paranoid but thats my opinion! although my son is only three so i don't know if i'd be the same when he's five but at this moment i'd say no.
