No shirt but if needed a tank - may want to start with a tank if not used to diving for saves. Short swim trunks. Good sunglasses with a band to secure them to your head. You need to be ready to move your legs and arms freely, and playing in the sand makes it more challenging because you don't have solid ground to jump from. If you haven't played in the sand before, I'd recommend doing a lot of lunges to strengthen your calves, hamstrings and quads. You'll need all you can get for blocking, hitting/going for the kill, and especially if you do a jump serve. Oh - also, if you haven't played before at all or on the beach, find games with players that are playing for fun.....some games going on are pretty competitive and they'll be ***($&# to you and kick you out!!

Do not wear shorts with many pockets. I learned that the hard way yesterday. I would recommend a tank top over a t-shirt. Benefits include a healthy workout if you play actively and also gives you time to mingle with people, always a good thing. My friends and i just played beach-style volleyball yesterday, so we'd totally play with you if you lived in vegas. Have a great time dude.

If your a volleyball plater you'll notice your timing being way off till you get used to jumping in the sand. Beach volleyball works your legs, stomache and all around cardio. Especially if you play twos. Wear regular sports shorts and a t-shirt if your worried about the sun. i play without a shirt, you just get to sweaty wearing a shirt then when you dive your shirt gets covered, heavy and uncomfortable. where from?

Good luck

Benefits:
-playing on the beach draws attention to you
-it gets you into great shape quick
-it improves your hand eye cordination

What to wear:
since you are male i would suggest: eighter shorts or swimsuit bottoms without any top, if you do choose to wear a top have it be a sleeveless T, not cut off T

usually when your playing sand volleyball, you wear a bathing suit. no speedos =] but if you dont want to, or if its inside or something, then i would wear a t-shirt and a pair of athletic shorts
