Hey- I'm sorry about your dear friend moving on. I have found the best way to deal with loss is to create a completion, a ceremony of sorts. I was told by a shaman that birds should be "buried" in a tree top, as that is their natural element, rather than under the earth. So perhaps when you are ready, you could place his body somewhere beautiful up high, and say a goodbye to him in your own way. In honoring your friendship that way, your heart will feel a little sprout of peace, that will grow with time. Good luck.

Only time will heal your pain. Just cry some more. Samson will always live on inside you as a very fond memory. I've had a lot of experience with this in my lifetime and it's never good. But finally I just said, life MUST go on, I can't dwell on this sad event. Eventually you may get another pet and you will be happy and Samson will continue on inside you and you will be okay with that. Minnie was my mutt cat who was rescued when she was 3 weeks old. I had to put her to sleep when she was 17 years old. She died in my arms. I have three other cats now and she is SUCH a fond memory. I loved her and always will. I love my three cats now too and always will. I had a dog, who was just the best little girl ever. She was a golden retriever and she was 13 years old and died while she was spending time at her dogsitters. I'm getting another dog sometime this year. I had a bird who was very ill and I had to put her to sleep too. She was such a sweet little thing and I LOVED HER SO MUCH! But I had to do the right thing. It was time to help her go. Now I have inherited a parrot and I love her! we have so much fun. So give it some time. Let your emotions work themselves out and get another pet. I am unhappy without a pet.

Chris ,I am so very sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Sampson. It was obvious how much you loved him. The pain when we lose our beloved friends feels so awful. It feels like a part of you has been ripped away. Our pets love us for who we are and never judge us.They are always happy to see us and that is good for our soul ! Do not be afraid to cry; it shows how much you loved Sampson. And don't let ANYONE tell you it was only a bird!! People like that are not true animal lovers and don't understand the pain we feel.Time will heal all wounds although it dosent seem like that now.Find a good friend that you can talk to or cry to if needed.
My heart goes out to you at this most difficult time in your life.
Keep the faith my friend ; things will get better. You are a kind and caring soul, don't ever forget that.If there were more people like you in this world , there would be more happy birds.May your tears turn to smiles as you remember all the happy times you shared with each other.

Hang in there Chris! "Samson" has gone off to a good place.
He had I'm sure a good life with you. I know it's going to be hard cause you miss him.
I had a Finch once. He hated to be in his cage. One day I had him outside in his cage, and he flew away. I was devastated. I have another bird which is an Orange Winged Amazon Parrot....a much bigger bird than the Finch. My parrot was always jealous of the Finch. I don't he much missed the Finch when it was gone, like I did.
There are so many kinds of birds and so many Finches that would love for you to take home. When you feel up to it, in due time, maybe you can bring another bird home to become friends with. You can get a female and call her "Deliah", as in "Samson and Deliah".
Hang in there...and good luck.

Sorry about your bird Samson. You SHOULD be sad and crying - he was yours, after all, and he was a great pet, right?
Unfortunately, it's gonna take a while - maybe a few weeks - to get over the lingering sadness. I know - I've lost four dogs so far in my lifetime, but having those dogs made the sadness worth it.
Try to get out of the house - hit the mall or go somewhere else where there are people. You'll feel better.

i'm so sorry. What you should do, like that Alias person said, is to eather get out of the house for a while, bury the bird, and if you think you are ready, buy a new one, and name it, if you want, Samson Jr., or Samson II. It helps you remember him, and also lets you know that he's in a better place now.

It will surely take some time to heal. Like anything else time will heal the pain. Just remember times you had with him and at first it may make you cry more, but it will all bring a smile to your face. Then later, you can get another one and you will see similarities and even things that you may enjoy more with a new one. Remember the old and good memories and make more. You will love another one and Samson will always have a place in your heart!!! Good luck and feel better soon.

Awww...I'm sorry for your loss. This is the saddest part of having pets, the end. I've lost dozens of pets over the years, I'm 15 right now. One of my bird losses include a cockatiel named Dary. He was perched upon my door and my brother slammed it without knowing he was up there. Dary fell and was dead. I was crushed.
A good way for me to deal with my pet losses is to confide in my other pet or pets I have at the time. I spend lots of time with them and talk and cry to them. I'm hoping that wasn't the only pet you have, because that would really suck to be alone.
If you don't have any more pets, why not go to a pet store and pick one up? You don't have to go big, maybe a little betta fish? A pet is a pet, and pets are always faithful little companions. I think this might help.
If this isn't what will help you, then you should have a sweet little funeral for him. Buy a little plastic headstone from petco and tell him how much you miss him and how much he meant to you.
Healing takes time. Hang in there buddy. Good luck, and I'm sorry about your Samson. :( R.I.P.

I'm very sorry to hear about Samson. But you could make yourself feel better by knowing that he is in a better place now. He's out of his pain, and into a place with everything that he'd ever want and need. I hope this helps. It'll be alright!

I feel for the loss of your pet. Cry and let go.. remember how you were blessed to have Samson in your life, and how that made you happy to have such a companion. Time will heal the loss. If he passed away in your home, at least he was where he felt safe and loved.
