Afraid so partner! Think of it this way also, if you fudge on the new application and it goes unnoticed. Then you have a wreck that is not your fault, your new ins. co. finds out, they don't have to pay out on any of the claim. Now, when they ask on the app if you've had a claim as a driver, put yes, even if the accident wasn't your fault. Most of the time they will ask if you were found at fault. If you weren't then chances are nothing will happen and you'll still get the cheaper rate.

and accident and a claim are 2 different things.
You dont need to notify your NEW insurer when you have an accident no matter if ur the policy holder or not BUT you Do have to notify your NEW insurer if there has been a claim against you and/or by you in the past. Normally 5 years is the past that they look at. All claims have to be notified when getting new insurance whether you're first, second, third etc etc driver. According to the law you MUST notify you insurer (current) when you have an accident regardless of fault and whether you choose to settle the matter privately or not take any action at all. Not that I am recommedning or telling people that what I'm about to say is something they should do or condem but if you have a minor accident and you dont want any claims against you then ask the person who you colided with if you can pay for their damages priavtely. (Please note thats illegal). Remeber when getting new insurance you only need to tell them about claims, which are when insurance companies have to pay something out or get involved financially and/or you have to pay out. Hope that helped sorry for being so long.

You are required to disclose ALL accidents or claims (usually within the last 5 years) when obtaining quotations. This is regardless of whether you were the policyholder or a named driver at the time of the incident.

If you made a claim for your accident that you had then yes.
One of the questions they will ask you is have you made a claim in the last 3 or 5 years.
You need to say truth or it could deem the new insurance null and void.
This then means theoretically that u will have no insurance.

Good answers, but just to press home the point: an "accident" and a "claim" are two different things. You need to tell them about an accident even if you didn't claim off of it.

YES they will ask if any claims or accidents. In any case it's up to you to tell them of anything that might affect their decision to cover you. If you don't they will probably not find out until you try to make the next claim, then they will probably abandon you

If you are at fault for this accident, yes you do still need to disclose this information to your new insurance carrier. If you do not report it, they will still investigate if you have any at fault accidents, and if you do, it may be cause for them to reject your policy application.
