I've gone on it before and was just thinking about going on it again because my family is going on vacation in two weeks. So was just hopeing to lose 6 pounds like the diet says you can do. But before I go back on it I was just wondering if it is a good diet for a 14-year-old to be on? because some people say that restrictive diets can be bad when you're growing.
Thank you.

Restrictive diets do not always provide the proper nutrition. Also, it does not teach kids and teens healthy eating habits because as soon as they go off the diet, they go right back to their old eating habits or begin to believe that there is a magic pill "just eat this one food and all your problems will be solved" rather than looking at their health on the whole.

(because what happens if they go to a sleepover and there is no special K? will they ask for rye toast with fruit or will they gorge on cocoa puffs and mounds of candy because their food is not there.?)

Teach your 14 year old to look at what foods are available and how to make the best choices, and meal plan for themselves. I would also have him/her look at what they eat and take out things that have artificial sweeteners and empty calories. In other words, empower them - don't create "food fears and hang ups" and have a lifetime yo yo dieter/person eating or not eating to seek approval.

Cereals can be good, and provide fiber but some of the vitamins are added/enriched. We should try to eat diets where the vitamins and nutrients occur naturally as much as possible and only use vitamin supplements and enriched foods as an "insurance policy" but not fully bank on them as our complete nutrition.

And remember, having a child go with an increased reduction in calories can cause the body to go into starvation mode and retain pounds versus having the desired result. Focus on healthy choices, not pound and calorie counting

and nothing picks up the slack like regular exercise and drinking enough water.

Your teen should be fine on Sepecial K.But not a good idea to stay on that sort of diet.Learning to eat right should come at a very early age.

just don't drink soda for the next 2 weeks and I bet you lose weight. or don't eat bread or don't drink koolaid. cut one thing out of your diet that doesn't really have any nutrients. the special K cereal is OK for one meal, but you need more nutrients to stay healthy.
